Contemporary Chick Lit

Luck is a fickle playmate at best. It's fleeting, illusive, and we all crave it. But what would happen if you suddenly got lucky and your life changed to be exactly the way you wished it would be? Would it make you happy? Billy Rendall longs for her life to be different. She wants a promotion at work, her husband to be more loving, for Evan, a co-worker that she has had a crush on forever, to pay attention to her and for a bitchy co-worker to be gone. She complains to her therapist that she needs her luck to change, and is surprised when the wise woman gives her a small jade frog as a gift. Thinking that the what-not is just a dust-catcher, Billy takes it home and puts it on her nightstand without another though. But when she wakes up the next day to her husband's amorous attention, arrives at work to discover she has been made a vice-president with the company, Billy thinks her luck has finally changed. Her day is made even better when she is allowed to fire Alexa; the co-worker who Billy thinks has made her life miserable. But after a couple of days of perfection, Billy soon begins to feel a sense of something gone wrong. Have her husband's constant loving attention is begin to wear her out. The VP job she had coveted turns out to be harder than she expected it to be, and the loving advances of her co-worker Evan is beginning to feel a bit creepy. And the guilt over firing Alexa, especially when Billy discovers that the girl is not what she thought she was, is beginning to wear on Billy's nerves and conscious. Laura Caldwell weaves a spicy, lively tale in her latest novel, THE NIGHT I GOT LUCKY. Written in a humorous, fast- moving vein, Caldwell gives her readers a look at life in the world of promotional work through the eyes of her young, sassy character Billy Rendall. This is a delightful, insightful story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats as Billy finds her life was all so bad in the first place, lucky or not.

SUMMARY

When Billy Rendall suddenly gets everything she wants, it turns out to be the last thing she needs... A long-awaited promotion. Freedom from emotional baggage. A newly - ahem - amorous husband. What's wrong with this picture? Well... everything. For starters, Billy hasn't actually earned any of it. Instead, like some character in a fairy tale, this stuck-in-a-rut publicist had all her wishes granted overnight - which feels great, at first. But soon Billy's brand-new success starts to unravel--who'd have thought becoming a VP would be so Very Painful? Or that a harmless crush on a co-worker would turn not-so-harmless now that he's crushing back? It'll take a surreal, rollicking, high-stakes journey for Billy to realize what she really wants out of life...before it's too late.
