Okay so doing a fluff piece on a football player wasn't up there with political exposes but someone has to do them. Nicole "Nikki" Scott's manager wanted the scoop on what happened between jock Cal Braxton and his society fiancé Cynthia. So far no one has been able to get the meat of the story so Nikki aka the Barracuda was sent. After finding out that Cal was hiding out at his brothers dude ranch Nikki's first step was to make a reservation. Once there well doing the article would be simple and spending some needed down time at a spa would be just wonderful. However the place was full as in no vacancies but she was able to book the one remaining cabin. Only this cabin wasn't even close to having the advertised luxury amenities of the Crystal Creek Dude Ranch. It was a secluded rustic -- did I mention rustic -- cabin that had at one time been the family homestead. Talk about starter homes. Well this one was missing electricity and indoor plumbing so upon her arrival Nikki was beginning to doubt if doing any kind of story about Cal was worth it. Then again there was Cal and the chemistry between them was instant and hot. So maybe this wouldn't be so difficult after all and once the Barracuda did her thing she would leave this place in the wake of dust -- literally. Oh did I mention that the cabin was haunted by a woman who was murdered there. However the tables had turned in Cal's favor -- you see he knew who Nikki was and what she was after. Not one to back down from a challenge he was determined to let her get the real flavor of living the old ways as she researched her book. And since she seemed very willing and sexy as all out he might be able to get in a little fun for himself before she hightailed it off the ranch. But neither had banked how stubborn and driven they both were and so the duel was on. There could only be one man or woman standing at the end so may the best "rancher" win and if in the interlude some mind blowing sex -- well that's all part of the game -- isn't it? Ah, time will tell. Interesting tale of modern meets rustic which proves if you've got the mettle you can do almost anything. Doesn't mean you learn to love it but while enmeshed in the experience why not enjoy yourself? The reader will enjoy themselves sharing the exploits of city girl Nikki meets Bessie the cow and the drunken rooster among others in this book by Karen Kelley. Falling in love means facing the truth about who you are and sometimes makes you question your values. Watch Nikki & Cal and enjoy.
