Mystery Culinary | Mystery Cozy | Mystery Amateur Sleuth

Event planner Sophie Winston didn't plan on having the Thanksgiving from hell but it sure looks like it's going that way. She's hosting her family—her mother, father, sister and her sister's latest fiancé—in her Alexandria home. Sophie doesn't like the fiancé, Craig, upon meeting him but she can't quite put her finger on why. And her mother doesn't make things easy on Sophie, instead comparing her endlessly to Sophie's childhood rival, Natasha Smith. Natasha is a local celebrity, a Martha Stewart wannabe, with her own TV show and advice column.

A trip to the grocery store begins the unraveling of this Thanksgiving holiday. Sophie is approached by a man offering a free kitten. After shopping, Sophie has second thoughts and goes looking for the man and the kitten. Instead she finds his dead body and becomes the police's chief suspect. Especially after it is discovered that the man had her photo and name in his vehicle. The following day Sophie stumbles across another body, this time at the Stupendous Stuffing Shakedown. Uh-oh. Of course Natasha is competing against Sophie here as well.

Why did the stranger have her name and picture? Was the whole free kitten routine some kind of ruse? Are the two deaths related? Do the police—especially hunky Detective Wolf Fleishman—really think Sophie is capable of killing two people? If she doesn't clear her name, this may be Sophie's last Thanksgiving as a free woman. Sophie has to juggle detecting in between hosting an ever-increasing crowd in her home, including her ex-husband and former in-laws—and her ex's girlfriend, the oh-so-perfect Natasha.

THE DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME, first in the Domestic Diva mystery series, is a culinary delight. Rich descriptions make the meals seem very real to the reader. Each chapter begins with an entertaining tip from Natasha or Sophie. Ms. Davis has created very real, zany characters in her debut mystery. Join Sophie for her wild Thanksgiving adventures and hang on!

SUMMARY

Few can compete with Natasha Smith when it comes to entertaining, but her childhood rival, Sophie Winston certainly tries. While Natasha is known for her intricate centerpieces and painstakingly prepared gourmet meals, Sophie likes to keep things simple . . . real simple. Natasha may have stolen the spotlight -- and Sophie’s husband -- but Sophie is determined to take home the prize at the Stupendous Stuffing Shakedown. She just needs the right ingredients. However, Sophie’s search for the perfect turkey takes a basting when she stumbles across a corpse. And when the police find her name and photo inside the victim’s car, they think she has some explaining to do. Sophie will have to set her trussing aside to solve the murder or she’ll be serving up prison grub -- and that definitely wouldn’t be a good thing.
