Romance Series | Romance Paranormal

Draining her shot of Cuervo, FBI agent Diana Reyes signals the bartender for another one to chase the others she just had, but the strong taste of liquor still can't numb her whirling mind. After ending her two year love affair with Ryder Latimer, her vampire lover, Diana is determined that she doesn't want to follow his rendez-vous with destiny. Yet, why she wondered, what was she doing still hanging around the Blood Bank, Manhattan's favourite haunt of the vampire subculture? After asking Ryder to leave her alone and not to put the bite on her, she still feels the incredible pain of her loss with the intensity of the lingering pain of a severed limb.

As a strategy to get over Ryder, Diana plans to spend more time with her good friend Sylvia who is thrilled with her first pregnancy. Before Diana gets to call her again, she gets an early morning call that Sylvia is dead and her husband, Raul Rodriguez, was found covered in her blood. Believing him to be innocent, despite the evidence, Diana vows to find the real killer, her case or not.

Meanwhile, her investigation into a money-laundering scheme unwittingly moves into an undercover investigation of the Cuban Democratic Army by the CIA and brings her back into intimate contact with Alex, her old lover, in order to investigate the case. With a biological clock ticking, Diana is torn between her feeling for Alex who could give her the baby she craves or the hot passion she misses with Ryder. But, can she face living for centuries? Will Ryder he able to control his own strong demon while striving to honour Diana's request when Stacia, a strong willed vampire with two centuries of experience in controlling others, comes on the scene and is lusting to make him hers forever?

If you have not read Caridad Pineiro before, you will be thrilled by her abilities to integrate fast paced undercover police work with realistic depictions of the vampire world in this romantic tale. If you are a fan of hers already, you will relish this follow-up story of the two strong willed characters of Ryder and Diana and Pineiro's skill in interweaving her themes of darkness and light with sensuous scenes of lust and longing.

SUMMARY

When FBI agent Diana Reyes fell in love with Ryder Latimer, she knew that there were things she would give up. For the passion her vampire lover brought into her life, it seemed a fair trade.

Now she isn't so sure. The darkness vampires walk in wakes something inside her, something that frightens her even as it excites. Something that makes her wish for a more "normal" life.

Ryder understands her fears…and has fears of his own: of losing her, of the void that would fill him without her.

But when a case draws Diana into a purely human darkness, Ryder must make a decision: Can he let her go? Or will he step between her and death, no matter if she hates him afterward?
