Jasmine Donally is a somewhat flighty daughter to a newly
named ambassador to the Cehn-Tahr, but something goes
horribly wrong for her father. Not understanding why her
father was dismissed or what could possibly have happened
to shame him so that he could no longer find work, Jasmine
soon finds herself alone in the world. At her wits end and
refusing any help from the Cehn-Tahr's whom she blames for
her father's fall from grace, she accepts an offer to join
the Rojak military. Once a part of the enemy camp, she
thrives but a part of her cannot forget nor forgive the one
person she thought should have helped her father.
Mekashe, was the captain of the Imperial Guard. He became
enamored with the blue eyed human, but is forced to sever
all ties with her as he sees that she could never accept
his true side. They move on but he still feels something
for her even though he cannot forgive the words that came
out of her foolish mouth. Their paths cross again and now
she is a military doctor for the Rojak people and he is the
leader of the mixed race ship Holconcom. They rescue Jasmine
and her injured patient, but the members of the ship treat
her poorly until she finds out the hard way that it was in
fact her words that had destroyed her father's career ...
and wonders what else it is that she got wrong.
THE PURSUIT is a fascinating look back into author Diana
Palmer's sci-fi world. This is her fifth offering and each
one is better than the last. One of my favorite things that
an author can do in a series is bring back past characters
and she does a great job in
doing this while still making it the main couples story.
Jasmine and Mekashe are the center of the storyline as we
watch them in the past, present, and get a look of hope for
the future. Jasmine had a lot of growing up to do and this
author stretched things out to give her that time, and give
us the time to meet and like other characters -- such as her
fellow Rojaks.
I enjoy the Morcai Battalion series and, as I
am not a real big sci-fi fan,
that says something. Ms. Palmer gives her readers an
amazingly well scripted look at this sometimes violent very
turbulent world. She fills it with people that feel
realistic, some likable and others not so much, but
characters that will stay with you long after the last word
is read. I can't wait to get my hands on the next of this
authors Morcai Battalion books.
