Isabel Roma is a mistress of disguise who works as an operative for the enigmatic Noelle. Trevor Callaghan is a mercenary working for an elite team of operatives made up of ex-military men. Trevor and Isabel (Izzy) have worked together before, when Noelle and her women joined up with Jim Morgan and his men for an undercover operation. Trevor and Izzy became very aware of each other as a man and a woman during the op, but as soon as the job ended; Izzy ran off to her next undercover job, afraid to face her growing feelings for Trevor. As for Trevor, this is the first woman who has really made him feel the possibility of love again after his wife died two years before.

After five months undercover, Izzy decides she has to confront her feelings for Trevor, and flies down to the team compound in southern Mexico. Most of the team is there recouping from their last job, except for team leader Morgan, who has left for a meeting in the states. Before any kind of headway can be made between sorting out the couples feelings, the compound is attacked by a group of killers for hire. After a chaotic battle and some devastating losses, the team regroups at Noelle's compound in the states as a temporary stop before they move on to their other base camp in Costa Rica. While there, the team learns that Morgan never made it to his meeting, and is now missing. When the team learns who ordered the strike, they start gathering intel on the mysterious Tomas Meiro; and then mount a joint operation with Noelle and her team.

The joint teams arrive in Monte Carlo to put their undercover operation into effect. They are looking to find out why Meiro ordered the hit on the compound, and what has happened to Morgan. Isabel's job in the setup will be as a rich socialite vacationing in Monte Carlo to gamble, and to engage Meiro in a flirtation so that she can subtly pump him for information. This doesn't sit well with Trevor, as he worries about Izzy and her safety. Meiro is an active partner in a human trafficking ring, and Trevor is afraid something bad will happen to her. Not only that, things are very unsettled between them, and they need more time to work their issues out; time that they just don't have while in the middle of a delicate operation.

MIDNIGHT GAMES is an excellent addition to a very good Romantic Suspense series. The story has a fascinating plotline, lots of action, and an intriguing twist. The story flowed seamlessly from a shootout between mercenary factions to a debonair 'James Bond' type caper without a hitch. This is an absorbing story, and there are lots more hunky guys for Elle Kennedy to write about in this series.
