Not sure what's worse -- trying to live down your own bad
reputation or that of a parent. People are funny about
casting blame toward whoever is convenient or handy, even if
they are victims themselves. Faith Harrington is
basically stepping into a place filled with landmines when
she goes back to her hometown. Her father is in jail for a
Ponzi scheme that affected so many and has left bitter
feelings all over the town. Since her father and mother
aren't convenient, Faith is basically the whipping boy
for those that need to lash out at someone. But Faith
doesn't really have many choices. Her arranged marriage hit
the skids right along with her father's admission of guilt
leaving her with much insecurity concerning her husband's
cheating and ultimate betrayal. Faith is beginning to feel
that either she was naïve or blind when it came to both her
husband and father and is planning on treading very
carefully in the future. Serendipity isn't ready to accept
Faith's homecoming with any warm welcome and she finds
herself in good company. You see the proverbial bad boy has
also returned. Ethan Barron ran from this town and his
brothers when he was eighteen, joined the army, and luckily
found a lucrative career. He is now back to try and mend
fences with the two young brothers he left behind so many
years ago. Ethan has carried around a ton of guilt all
these years but is determined to reestablish some kind of
relationship with the only family he has left. But fate has
some surprises in store for the Barron brothers. It seems
they have a younger sister Tess. There's no doubt she is
their father's love child but now there is still another
challenge they have to face. This is one they will have to
deal with as a united front. Ethan and Faith are
rediscovering their attraction but there are so many
roadblocks courtesy of each of their families that they are
reluctant to move forward and admit how very right they are
for one another. It seems they are the only ones who see
that. With Faith questioning her feelings every step
of the way, it looks like they are just doomed. This is the first book of a series revolving around the
Barron brothers. SERENDIPITY is a great introduction to some
angst ridden characters that are stuck in a bad place. Leave
it to
Phillips to figure a way out. When things are going badly
there's no place like home even if it at first seems really
inhospitable. SERENDIPITY is a great story about second
chances and the ultimate challenge of forgiving yourself
SUMMARY
Faith Harrington was the classic girl of privilege--until her father was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme and then her marriage crashed and burned. Now Faith is back in her hometown, hoping for a fresh start. But her father's betrayal has rocked Serendipity - and not everyone is ready to welcome her with open arms. Then she runs into her teenage crush -- the dark, brooding Ethan Barron. Ethan, no stranger to scandal himself, never imagined he'd own the mansion on the hill, much less ever again come face to face with Faith--the princess he once kissed senseless. The chance meeting reignites the electric charge between them. Still, when Ethan hires her to redecorate what was once her childhood home, Faith is sure that getting involved with the town's notorious bad boy will only lead to trouble. But her heart has other ideas. And so do the townspeople of Serendipity ...
