Lauren Willig brings us the next novel in the Pink
Carnation Series. As always, these novels are two stories
wrapped between the covers. Eloise and Colin, are spending
some time alone with each other at Selwick Hall after the
holidays. Eloise has her work cut out for her researching
the history of the Pink Carnation for her doctorate. What
Eloise finds during the course of her research leads her
into the world of King George and his madness. But, how do
all of those things tie together with the Pink Carnation
and the French flower spies?
Lady Charlotte Landsdown resides with her dowager
grandmother at the family estate, Girdings. Her
grandmother is trying to marry Charlotte off to the next
eligible bachelor, but Charlotte has other ideas. She has
always had a soft spot in her heart for her distant cousin
Robert, the Duke of Dovedale. Robert ran off to join His
Majesty's service soon after he inherited the title, and
now, after spending a wonderful holiday with Charlotte, he
has deserted her again and broke her heart a second time.
Charlotte has been promised to the Queen as a lady in
waiting soon after the holiday, so she bustles off to
London to attend the Queen. She finds Robert at court and
they are soon caught up in a plot to dethrone mad King
George and replace him with the Prince of Whales.
THE TEMPTATION OF THE NIGHT JASMINE is the fifth book in
this highly entertaining series. I thoroughly enjoy the
story within a story concept. I invest just as much into
Eloise and her desire to find details about the Pink
Carnation as I do in the main story line with Charlotte and
Robert. I enjoy the dash of historical fact interspersed
with a lot of historical fiction. Willig brings the story
to life in both eras, I can't wait for the next book in the
series!
"Pride and Prejudice lives on" in Lauren Willig's acclaimed
Pink Carnation series, which continues with another
deliciously lighthearted, romantic, and suspenseful novel.
Willig introduces to her series the most elusive spy of all
time, whose calling card is the faint whiff of jasmine in
the cold night air.
After twelve years in India, Robert, duke of Dovedale,
returns to his estate in England to avenge the murder of his
mentor during the 1803 Battle of Assaye. Robert plans to
infiltrate the infamous, secretive Hellfire Club to uncover
the murderer's identity- but he has no idea that an even
more difficult challenge awaits him-one Lady Charlotte
Lansdowne.
Having cherished a romanticized view of Robert since
childhood, Charlotte is thrilled by his return. To
Charlotte, Robert is all the knights of the Round Table
rolled into one. That's not exactly the case, but she can't
help but search for the man she loves inside this
less-than-pristine package. And while Robert works to
dissuade Charlotte from her delusions, he can't help but be
drawn to her innocence and inner beauty.
When Charlotte is approached by Lady Henrietta Selwick to
join her in a bit of espionage-investigating a plot to
kidnap the king-Robert soon realizes that Charlotte is not
only the perfect partner in crime; she's the perfect
partner, period. Caught in a dangerous game with deadly
flower-named spies and secret members of the Hellfire Club,
Robert and Charlotte must work together to reveal the
villain . . . and confront their true passion for each other.
