It depends on the author. (and my bank account. lol) Some I need to read as soon as possible. Some I can wait until the whole series is out.

I'm with you with Danielle Steele's books. In fact for some reason this month I've felt compelled to re-read some of her older books! Season of Passion, Palomino and The Promise. I loved it :) I may go back for more. I think the most recent book of hers that I enjoyed like I did the older books was H.R.H. (also a few years old but still fairly recent).

I re-read and I know it doesn't make sense, especially since I have a TBR mountain. But then, who said I made sense? *g* That seems a whole lot like work to me. Making sense that is.

I just checked for Hot Pursuit in my library system and there are 52 copies there with a waiting list of 139.

My book buying has been affected by the economy. I buy fewer unknown authors now and I'm using my library a LOT more. I do have a few auto buys but even while I am still buying those books, I'm grumpy about having to get hard covers (especially if a series started in mm and changed mid way through.)

The books that I read in High School that stay with me today are Catcher in the Rye, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula and Roots. I had an amazing English teacher. She had a system where we had to accumulate a number of points by the end of the year. It didn't really matter what you read (to a degree anyways - no comic books) but you had to read and either do a book report or an oral presentation to her about the book to prove your understanding. The number of points you got depended on the degree of difficulty for the book. If I remember correctly the goal was to get 100 points for the year. Something like that

I buy extra copies of books (probably more often that I realize-I'm fairly clueless about what all is in my TBR stack) simply because I forget what I've already read. Also, I've found myself re-buying books because they're being re-issued. If it's been a while since I've read the book, and it's by an auto-buy author I tend to buy the book. (Which makes me mad because I have a limited book budget. I have to get into the habit of checking publication dates before buying the books)
