What starts out as the perfect romantic beginning, Tavish Advani marries the love of his life, Diya Prasad, in a Vegas wedding, leaving behind his past and moving toward SUCH A PERFECT FAMILY he was thrilled to find. But what starts out as perfect just might not be so perfect after all. The family he is married into have their own secrets. Secrets that make his past seem like a fairytale.
SUCH A PERFECT FAMILY is one of author Nalini Singh’s standalone thrillers. It centers on Tavish and Diya as newlyweds with their own secrets that come to a head when they visit her family. The setting is in New Zealand, and her family are Fijian Indians, so this is a rather diverse world that Ms. Singh brings us to with its different traditions, ways of talking, and living. She suffered trauma from her childhood that comes out, and he certainly had a lot to deal with from his past that adds to the mystery and why he is a suspect.
The mystery itself is very well put together, as we start out with the attack on the family and a fire that is set to destroy evidence. Tavish is immediately a suspect due to his past with the mysterious deaths of his former fiancées. Fans are given bits and pieces of the investigation so that we are allowed the chance to play detective, as is always my wish.
I have to admit that I am usually very good at getting the perp correct early, but this time I was led astray by the twists and turns that got thrown into the storyline by way of memories from others about the family’s past, with the police notes and investigations dropped into it to add to the drama. This is a rather dark and twisted read, and the finale might come as a surprise for some.
If you like a dark mystery, unexpected twists, a decent romance, and a view of a world that few of us have ever seen, SUCH A PERFECT FAMILY is what you need.
