Six months into living in the inherited Maine manor by the sea that was built by her ancestor, Sonya MacTavish has found her forever place. She has her boyfriend, Trey Doyle, her best friend, Cleo from Boston, and she’s getting to know all the cousins she didn’t know she had, especially Owen Poole. The only thing to mar Sonya’s happiness is Hester Dobbs, a malevolent ghost who has been torturing her family for over a century, killing the brides that come into the house. Now, being forced to see and hear the deaths and suffering of all the other ghosts that inhabit the manor, Sonya won’t stop trying to eradicate the evil presence tormenting them all.
Having witnessed Dobbs killing all seven brides and stealing their wedding rings, Sonya is more determined than ever to put an end to her torture. To break the curse, Sonya must find all seven rings, but she’ll need to leave her realm to do that. With the help of the mirror that allows her to travel back and forth, and the support of all the people around her, Sonya will do all she can to ensure she’s ultimately the mistress of the manor.
If you’re looking for a feel-good read that’ll leave you warm and cozy, Nora Roberts has you covered. THE SEVEN RINGS concludes Nora’s Lost Bride trilogy with all the allure you expect from one of her books. While I very much enjoyed the series, I do feel like the danger didn’t feel nearly as heart-stopping as her other series. There is so much emphasis put on the everyday activities, from Sonya doing her day job to the group’s nightly dinners, that once we get to the big bad ghost, there’s not a whole lot of time to wrap things up. The arrival of Sonya’s ex felt entirely unnecessary. Just because there is a lot of filler between the three books in the series, I think this could have easily been condensed into a duology instead. This is a Nora Roberts book, though, so if you’re looking for a heartwarming read that will leave you longing for the idyllic charm of a small town, this is the perfect series for you.
