Lyra Keres won the Crucible – the 12 potentially deadly labors, and on top of that, she was lucky enough to have won Hades' heart. You would think that now she could rest on her throne as the Queen of the Underworld. Unfortunately, she is still the mortal who was cursed by Zeus (who is well known for his jealous fits), and she is one of THE THINGS GODS BREAK. But not this time – not if she can manage just a bit longer. Having been plunged – literally and figuratively – into Tartarus and trapped to once again fight for survival. She is the key to freeing the Titans who have been trapped behind ancient locks. They are twisted by rage, and Lyra is once again forced to survive all the horrific trials they set before her. There are a few more problems – Hades is ready to destroy the world for her, the Titans want freedom and their freedom might also destroy the world, and all Lyra wants is peace – and Hades.
THE THINGS GODS BREAK follows author Abigail Owen and follows The Games Gods Play as book two of the series. Lyra is a young woman who is cursed but strong and resilient in ways that boggle the mind as she endures tests that would shatter a lesser person. In THE THINGS GODS BREAK, we find Lyra plunging into Tartarus to begin the battle for her life against the Titans who have been imprisoned there. If she wins, the world might be ruined, but if she doesn’t, Hades will be the one destroying it. That is how strong the love between Lyra and Hades is. I have to admit, though, I loved THE THINGS GODS BREAK. I did have a bit of trouble with the length, so it took me longer to finish than normal. I also have little knowledge of some of the lesser-known Greek Gods and what they were gods of. That also slowed me down because I had to stop and look up the ones I didn’t know – but that is just a me problem.
It is difficult to review THE THINGS GODS BREAK without spilling out spoilers, so I will end it with – If you want a different look at Gods, Goddesses and the poor mortal who must deal with their temper tantrums, grab this book and enjoy.
This breathtaking collectible is only available on a limited first print run in the U.S. and Canada only, a must- have for any book lover.
The gods want her dead...Hades will bury them.
You’d think I’d have learned by now:
Don’t mouth off to deities.
Don’t fall for the King of the Underworld.
And definitely don’t get dragged into a divine death match where I’m the cursed mortal prize.
But here I am—trapped in Tartarus, humanity’s worst pit stop, squaring off against monsters who make the gods look merciful. Titans, twisted by centuries of rage and ruin, are sealed behind seven ancient locks.
And guess what?
I\'m the key.
To escape, I’ll have to survive every horrifying trial they throw at me.
To win, I might have to become something the gods never saw coming.
Oh, and Hades?
He\'s about to break every rule the gods ever wrote.
Because to save me...the god of death will burn the world.
But if I break free? So do the Titans.
And the world won’t just suffer—it\'ll beg for the end.
