So I’m thinking that this newest book, RIVER LEGACY, is perhaps the perfect ending for the Powder River series by B. J. Daniels. It sure does bring a sense of closure on many chaotic moments for the folks that ranched along Powder River. RIVER LEGACY is book five of this enjoyable journey through the lives of some interesting characters. Each character has been imbibed with interesting flaws and quirks, which of course just made them unforgettable.
The Stafford and McKenna families have ranched near each other for generations. But it was the relationship between Charlotte Stafford and Holden McKenna that has been the central glue of sorts keeping these families at odds for years.
In RIVER LEGACY, the central story is one that starts with betrayal and deceit, winding up as an unplanned and unexpected relationship. Just the sort of storyline that this talented author B. J. Daniels constructs. Lots of interesting folks to meet and get reacquainted with. In the world of these multigenerational ranch families, there is a sense of conflict and competition. But in the Powder River series, we are often surprised by the pairing of certain characters, and in RIVER LEGACY we are once again going to be entertained by the new couple in town. Ryder Stafford and Victoria Forester and truly an odd couple. Ryder was raised along with brothers and sisters who for the most part have married and started somewhat independent lives. That does not mean they aren’t part of the Stafford extended family, just not living or managing the family ranch.
Charlotte is the manager of the ranch. But in recent times she has given over much of the work to her two younger sons, Ryder and Brand. There seems to be great interest in someone trying to buy their ranch. Both sons are strongly against that. But it seems as though they don’t necessarily have any options.
Victoria is the daughter of a man who has broached the topic of buying the Stafford ranch, not necessarily with any interest in running it. More like getting to the minerals in the land. Somehow Victoria finagles a visit to the ranch, and that is when the fun really begins.
Fans of B. J. Daniels and the Powder River will certainly be meeting up with some favorite characters from the first four stories. The ending is certain to hold some surprising moments but as usual, all the details are there. You just have to pay attention.
In Montana, land was everything.
But for an outsider, land was a means to an end…
Ryder Stafford knows trouble when he sees it, and it’s heading straight for him with copper hair, green eyes and a boatload of sass. Victoria Forester has an indecent proposal in mind—pretend to be her cowboy fiancé so she doesn’t have to marry the man her father has chosen.
Ryder has been waiting for his chance to tell billionaire Wendell Forester that the Stafford Ranch isn’t for sale, despite his bullying tactics. He’s certainly not looking to get involved with the man’s spoiled daughter. But there’s grit and fire beneath Vicky’s rich-girl facade, enough to make her right at home in Powder Crossing. With her father receiving death threats, and the bitter feud between the Staffords and McKennas escalating, Vicky is suddenly a target too. And what started as pretend has become a deep bond that Ryder will protect with his very life…
