The stars of this latest foray into really unimaginable pairing are Florence and Hades. Both were brought up in very unconventional ways. Florence’s parents kept themselves virtually apart in their lifestyle choices. She had grown up knowing certain characteristics would harm her ability to step into the huge footsteps of her father’s corporation. And that was always her goal. It was a way to earn his respect, if not love, in his eyes. Her mother was what I would call a flibbertigibbet. No real aspirations for success, more flamboyant for attention’s sake.
Hades, on the other hand, had been physically abused by his father, who was clearly an abusive human being. Hades took the brunt of the physicality to spare his mother. It left a competitive, soulless person who left no space for any personal relationship. But then Florence walked in.
Their relationship began when she was just eighteen and he was twenty-one. Both are relatively young, but so altered in their personal judgements. Shaped by their unique family dynamics. And now they find themselves together.
I can’t go into much of their journey into normal, and it certainly qualifies as a journey. But as they say, if it isn’t difficult, then it won’t be worth it.
In the businesses, their competition was noteworthy. In their personal lives, secrecy had always been of the utmost importance.
What happens to folks when the line starts to blur between professional and personal? Well, that’s what we will find out in PREGNANT ENEMY, CHRISTMAS BRIDE by the amazing Maisie Yates. She certainly had to dig deep to create these two incredibly unique characters.
