Bethany Aodhan is not your storybook pixie, she’s tough and getting more powerful since the death of her mother-woman. When not running her family tavern, she is in the service – and not willingly – as a relic hunter for the Deva’s Fae Council. They are forcing her, as punishment for using her ability against a family member, to search for missing relics from the gods. Her new job is to find the Borrhas’s Horn, also known as the HORN OF WINTER, which is apparently in the hands of someone trying to use it for revenge. Whoever has the horn is freezing buildings and people that seem random but slowly Bethany and her friends and family put together that is just might have to deal with her aunt and cousin.
Along the way of trying to save people from freezing, Bethany finds herself still amid man trouble. She is trying to get over the man she loves, who is someone who will never be available for her; not give in to the one who she knows will not trust again and give the new man a real chance.
HORN OF WINTER is Relic Hunters number five by author Keri Arthur and follows exactly where Shield of Fire ended. Bethany is a very strong woman, but she does have a bit of a problem with her heart – it just can’t settle on the right man. But then that is part of her charm.
In HORN OF WINTER, readers are re-introduced to her brother Lugh and his lover and Bethany’s best friend Darby who had patiently waited for Lugh to notice her. Then to round out the characters there is Cynwrig a high-born dark elf that she should not pine for because he is beyond her reach; Mathi a former lover who crossed a line; Eljin who wants to be a lover, and, of course, her stepfather and head of Interspecies Investigations Team’s night division and bear shifter Sgott Bruhn. But then add in a variety of other elves, pixies, and other creatures that fill out the pages that will be rapidly turned.
HORN OF WINTER will have readers expectantly joining Bethany in her adventures while following along as she tries to lead a normal (for a pixie) life. In this case, it is steamy, danger-filled, with several completely unexpected revelations, with very intriguing and unusual if not downright frightening characters. Simply put HORN OF WINTER is a read you will not want to miss!
SUMMARY
Revenge is a dish best served cold… When Bethany Aodhán, resident—and reluctant—relic hunter for Deva’s Fae Council, is assigned her next task, little does she realize just how many unwanted ghosts it will raise. The missing relic—Borrhás’s Horn—enables the user to raise elements of winter against their enemies. It quickly becomes clear that the Horn is now in the hands of a powerful witch who has very specific targets in mind—everyone involved in the hunt for Agrona’s Claws. As the attacks intensify, and buildings—and people—are frozen and destroyed, Bethany and Mathi Dhār-Val, her Elven handler and friend, race to uncover who is behind the attacks and reclaim the Horn. But the threads of treachery loom closer than either of them realize, weaving around the pixie who pursues her romantically and the dark elf king she wants but cannot have. As the attacks grow ever more violent, it becomes clear that Bethany is now in their enemy’s crosshairs Can they find the Horn and its wielder in time to not only save Bethany, but an entire city? Or will winter’s icy embrace take them all?
