Diana Palmer does it again. Unexpected characters appear in her latest creation LAWBREAKER. It seems we are now drawn into the underworld filled with gangs, bosses and something that closely resembles mafia-type folks. Both men and women I must admit. It is a classic rendition of a world where protection is tantamount to their lives. And secrecy is quite candidly expected. In LAWBREAKER Diana Palmer lets us know that these are very modern gangsters by her description of the world around them. She even treads a little into the political scene. All told this was a genre I didn’t expect from Diana Palmer, whom I’ve enjoyed for well over twenty years. I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing over thirty books since I started keeping track. I adore her tough-as-nails cowboys and the young ladies they have an eye on, even though they are keeping their distance.
So when Odalie is in the presence of Tony there is the usual tug of war between their attraction and reluctance to do anything about it. Again one of Diana Palmer's favorite formulas. Tony has a past. He is also several years older than Odalie. Their paths cross quite often. Odalie grew up quite spoiled, but her reputation is less than sparkling. She is an introvert. Her training as an opera singer is second to none. She has the talent to make it big, but her reluctance to attract attention to herself is what prevents her from taking her place in that business.
Tony fully admits Odalie is an angel with an amazing voice. He would never take any action that could possibly put her in jeopardy. He has enemies. And in LAWBREAKER it is those enemies that spice up the storyline. Thugs are always an interesting topic and Diana Palmer does a masterful job creating some of the most interesting multifaceted bad guys. Such fun.
So in LAWBREAKER, the sophisticated world of art and opera meets the often dangerous, revengeful world of the underground. Diana Palmer pulled out all the stops on LAWBREAKER. Some laugh-producing scenes set the stage for dialog often filled with odd references to activities that are candidly unlawful. The author paints the bad guys with a measured dose of comedy which keeps the story from becoming too dark. Get ready to meet some awesome characters of all types.
