"Who is killing in the French vineyards?"

Romance Suspense | Thriller Crime

Special Agent Jeanette LaFarge has been called in to investigate a death in a vineyard near Paris. Once there she finds that there was more than one and each was bled dry. The perfect case for the Blackbird crew teamed with the new recruit and very new ghost whisperer Daniel Murray. Together they must slog through the legends and LEGACY OF BLOOD that seems to be at the forefront of these horrible murders. As they investigate it becomes obvious that these are only the newest killings – there are more.

LEGACY OF BLOOD is author Heather Graham’s amazing offering in her global investigator’s series The Blackbird Files. As always Ms. Graham throws in beautiful scenery that makes you feel as if you are there. She also uses infamous historical criminals to correlate with these modern-day crimes. She gives readers a look into the life of Hungarian noblewoman Elizabeth Bathory. This woman’s infamous legend comes into play as the investigators find similarities in her crimes to those in France.

As always I try to play detective and figure out the culprit before the grand reveal and I have to admit that in this one Ms. Graham doesn’t exactly hide the truth. But to get to the unveiling there are a lot of interesting twists and turns. Some of the twists include a magician who might be legit or the criminal; a ghost from WWII who helps them find more bodies; people who are not what they seem to be and others who are exactly what you see. It is always fun to try to read this author’s mind.

Of course, there is also the attraction between Jeanette and Daniel – who start undercover as cousins but that falls apart quickly. The romance between these two is sweeter than others by Ms. Graham, yet there are some steamy happenings as expected with a good romantic suspense offering. I have to admit that I felt at times it was a bit wordy and repetitive – especially when it came to the Hungarian legend, but still an amazing read. The main bad guy will likely not surprise you, but the culprit's associates just might.

LEGACY OF BLOOD will have you holding on to your seats at times and flipping pages as quickly as you can at others. This is a standalone but after you read this you will simply want to go back and read the others.

SUMMARY

In the streets of Paris, someone wants to paint the town red…

When Special Agent Jeanette LaFarge is called in to investigate a vineyard in the Reims region of France, the last thing she expects to find is multiple bodies with every vein bled dry. It’s yet another case tailor-made for Blackbird. Joining her is recent recruit Detective Daniel Murray, eager to use his newfound abilities to track down whoever is terrorizing Paris and its surrounding areas.

With each ashen victim grows the realization that those responsible weren’t inspired by vampiric creatures of the night but by Elizabeth Báthory herself. The Hungarian noblewoman’s unspeakable crimes against her people are being reenacted in both the City of Lights and across the French countryside. Unless the two of them act quickly, the upcoming harvest promises to yield blood instead of wine.
