ON THE HUNT is a fast-paced, edge-of-the-seat read by author Iris Johansen. Few authors can write a book with characters that pull you into the action – whether it be the good guys you are rooting for or the bad guy you want to see get his. One of the supporting characters is Fiona, his niece, who has been raised by him since she was seven. She is so well developed that perhaps readers will see someone they know in her personality – a sweetheart, strong-willed, animal lover (indeed they call her the “horse whisperer) and the kind of young woman you want to have at your back because she will fight for those she loves. She does steal a scene or two in this book.
This is a perfectly written thriller that has you lost in the intrigue and the vivid portrayal of the fascinating characters as they travel around the world trying to stop a madman. Even the secondary characters give such life to the book they make it all seem so realistic. The romance that develops between Harlan and Kira seems even warmer and more there than in some of the other thrillers by this author.
Kira is intelligent and very brave, so you can guess she is not one to stand behind anyone. Harlan has money and intelligence and doesn’t like to take no from anyone, so he has to learn to compromise or lose the help (and later love) of a woman who is perfect for him. I enjoyed how Kira was willing to help but would draw the lines in the sand and demand a partnership that Harlan had to accept. Though by that time he was already well intrigued by this woman who knew her own worth. The adrenaline rush both of these people go through will have your heart racing while speeding to try to stop the villain before he has the chance to stop them.
ON THE HUNT is Ms. Johansen at her best and she will give readers a thrilling, edgy read with just the right touch of romance to please any romance reader. You will want to set aside time when you get your hands ON THE HUNT because you will not want to put it down until you get to the end. Then you will want more!
