Azelie Vargas loves to hang out at a local coffee shop especially when a stranger comes in more than once and she enjoys looking at him. Little does she know she is about to be led down a BETRAYAL ROAD but one that has a chance to become a real and happy road.
Andrii Federoff known as Maestro to the other members of Torpedo Ink is in San Francisco on the final leg of a search for human traffickers and Azelie just might be the link. Is she an innocent or does she know what the man she does the books for does for that money?
BETRAYAL ROAD is author Christine Feehan’s Torpedo Ink motorcycle series' ninth offering. This is Maestro and Azelie’s story. He is undercover, needing information on where the women are being held and how to get in and rescue them. The plan is for him to simply seduce them out of her. It doesn’t take long before he questions everything he has promised to do. Especially knowing what she had gone through as a child and losing the rest of her family and almost her life.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of books that start out with deception – especially after the male lead “knows” that she is innocent. So many times, she gave him the truth of her life and even tried to make him stay away to protect him. Maybe if she made him do some groveling, I could have felt better about his lying to her, but she simply forgave him. This part is, of course, just my opinion – otherwise, I truly enjoyed BETRAYAL ROAD.
BETRAYAL ROAD has all the Torpedo Ink members doing what they do best as they work together to end this trafficking route. They also try with their limited understanding of the relationship to help Maestro with how to make things right with Azelie. They are learning but they aren’t there yet as you will see.
BETRAYAL ROAD is not as action-packed as the previous books in this series. There is more dialogue including a lot of rather funny and touching moments with the Merry Widows – Penny, Blanc and China and their male friends Doug and Carlton who hang around the coffee shop. These five people had adopted Azelie as their own and played a big part in helping with an unexpected kidnapping and rescue. There is some violence as the bad guy feels betrayed by her and causes her to fall into the wrong hands. There is also a rather interesting surprise about the bad guy that changes things for the club at the last minute and almost costs Maestro his Azelie.
If you love to watch as people figure out how to deal with love and romance, touching and funny moments and stopping the bad guys while dealing with surprises that life hands you then BETRAYAL ROAD is the perfect read.
