THE DUKE HAS DONE IT AGAIN is the sixth title in Jane Ashford’s The Duke’s Estates series. It features heroine Rose Denholme and hero Gavin Keighley, former childhood friends who have been pitted against each other in their families’ bitter feud. Enter the Duke and Duchess of Tereford (the hero and heroine from the first title), who own the estate Rose and Gavin’s families are feuding over. As they have in the previous installments, the Duke and Duchess set out to help Rose and Gavin realize they are perfect for each other.
I really enjoyed this friends-to-enemies-to-lovers tale! This can be read as a standalone, although I am enjoying it more since I am currently reading the first title in the series and am seeing the Duke and Duchess as they fall in love. The plot of this story is nicely paced and never feels hurried or boring. It helps to make Rose and Gavin’s progression from childhood friends to enemies caught in their parents’ battles to eventual lovers. I think the way the Duke and Duchess orchestrated their getting together is unique and a delight.
As for Rose and Gavin themselves, I love them both. Rose, much to the annoyance of her parents, loves the moor they live on and is a budding botanist. She is the coolheaded one between her and Gavin, and she helps him learn to control his temper. Once that changes, Gavin becomes quite the sweet, considerate guy. He really seems to begin falling for Rose first, and I absolutely love that in a romance. It doesn’t happen often enough as far as I’m concerned.
The only thing I would like to have seen changed is that the sex scene was low on steam. It doesn’t take anything from the story; I just found myself disappointed since the hero and heroine have great chemistry throughout and I wanted to see them sizzle.
THE DUKE HAS DONE IT AGAIN is a fun, easy read with a great heroine and great hero, and I look forward to reading more by Jane Ashford.
How can they stay rivals when they're falling in love?
As children of the two most prominent families in town, Gavin Keighley and Rose Denholme have been enemies their whole lives. When the Duke and Duchess of Tereford come to town to get their estate in order, they invite Gavin, Rose, and their families for a visit to settle the feud once and for all. But as jealousy takes root, the entire town begins to compete for the attention of the duke and duchess, forcing Gavin and Rose to choose between fighting for their family interests or fighting for the love that's blossoming between them.
