Mystery Private Eye

THE CAT WHO CAUGHT A KILLER by L.T. Shearer is an exceptionally well-done cozy mystery where a talking cat becomes the sidekick of a retired police detective. Conrad and Lulu Lewis make the perfect curious crime-solving duo in this charming and intriguing mystery.

Lulu Lewis was looking forward to retirement on her canal boat, The Lark. Her husband was killed in a hit-and-run three months earlier, and Lulu is still recovering from heartbreak when Conrad the Calico cat comes strolling aboard her boat. Lulu thinks she’s imagining things, but when Conrad convinces her he can talk, Lulu has found a new companion. Conrad accompanies Lulu on her errands, traveling on her shoulders when they visit Lulu’s mother-in-law, Emily. Emily lives in an assisted living facility and is suffering from Alzheimer’s. However, Emily is in good physical health. So, it comes as a shock when Lulu finds out Emily passed away the very next day. Her former cop instincts persuaded her that foul play was involved. As Emily and Conrad talk with Emily’s last visitors, question the facility staff, and piece together the clues, they soon learn the guilty party may have killed once before.

THE CAT WHO CAUGHT A KILLER is a sophisticated and highly entertaining cozy set in Maida Vale, a charming West London, England residential district. Lulu lives on a canal boat after leaving the home she shared with her husband and mother-in-law after her husband’s death. The community is full of ambiance and atmosphere, and traveling with Lulu and Conrad through the streets and shops is a pleasure. Lulu is a retired police detective with several loyal contacts in the profession that help her link together the clues, and Conrad can see people’s auras, which reveal their true nature. The mystery is multi-layered and fascinating, delving into issues of elder abuse, crimes of opportunity, inevitable change, and greed. Lulu and Conrad are tenacious and intelligent, pushing for answers and finding the truth, even after someone attempts to silence them. THE CAT WHO CAUGHT A KILLER is a clever, charming, calico-enhanced mystery. Readers will find themselves entertained, amused, and looking forward to Lulu’s and Conrad’s return in the next book.

Neither has Lulu Lewis, until he walks into her life one summer’s day. Mourning the recent death of her husband, the former police detective had expected a gentle retirement, quietly enjoying life on her new canal boat, The Lark, and visiting her mother-in-law in a nearby care home.

But when her mother-in-law dies suddenly in suspicious circumstances, Lulu senses foul play and resolves to find out what really happened. And a remarkable cat named Conrad will be with her every step of the way . . .
