MIND GAMES is bestselling author Nora Roberts' latest. We follow Thea's story in this one and her constant tug of war, the one which involves her mind more than the physical, with her parents' killer.
Thea's life changes direction when she and her sibling Rem, are in a small hillside town in Kentucky, on summer vacation with their grandmother. While they are on a two-week vacation their parents are in Virginia and halfway through the vacation they are murdered in their home. This incident means the siblings stay put with their grandmother and vow never to return to their home in Virginia. Their pain and grief gradually slows to a dull ache as they build their lives in Kentucky.
As the siblings grow up they share a close-knit bond and their grandmother and their uncles too. All the while they are growing up, once in their adulthood it is Thea who has the killer scratching at the back of her mind. What started with her parents' murder still has repercussions in her life even after she's grown up has a successful career and is on the verge of starting a new relationship.
The MIND GAMES are between Thea and the killer, I'm not going to spoil how exactly that happens, but it is very interesting and hooks you in. Every time she and the killer face each other it is thrilling to watch how Thea handles herself and pushes back. While their conversations soon become familiar I got a bit surprised every time, with the way Thea manages it and how it affects her life.
I was pulled in right from page 1. The author builds up the story brilliantly and the ending was so fitting and tied up well with how Thea's character develops in the story. There are elements of psychic to put it in simple terms and the story has enough warmth despite the danger and grief its characters go through.
A mix of family bonds, strong characters, some delicious chemistry and romance between Thea and Ty, cute kids and pets are paired nicely with the mind games side of the story. The cute, mundane family life against the demons that trouble us in life makes MIND GAMES an exciting read for me.
I finished reading it in a day and rarely do we come across books with a wholesome reading experience with a little bit of everything that life has to offer. If this is something you are looking for, do pick up this latest Nora Roberts for an exciting reading time.
