For in the bottom of a barrel filled with body parts is a beige horse. The fourth horseman of the apocalypse – and his name is Death.
THE REAPER FOLLOWS takes fans back into the fourth Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI series by Heather Graham. This couple, who manage to find time for romance while dealing with the sickest of killers, take us on this well-written, exciting crime-filled thriller.
The other three books – Danger in Numbers (white horse – pestilence), Crimson Summer (red horse – war) and Shadow of Death (black horse – war) each had their own four horsemen and their own crimes. THE REAPER FOLLOWS is the pale horse of death and death is all around them. It might not be necessary to read the first three to enjoy the fourth book but I believe you will want to go back and enjoy those books too.
Other members of the team seeking to find the killers are from past books. Aiden, Sabrina, and Mickey are there to add different aspects to the crime-solving with their varied personalities as well as other characters who flesh out the good guys. As always, I tried to get ahead of Ms. Graham by picking out the bad guys, but she was hard to get ahead of. So many twists and turns, truths and lies that make the evil ones harder to pinpoint. And this author does make her crooks very deceptively evil.
Within the crime story that is THE REAPER FOLLOWS you will find romance – and not just Amy and Hunter – as well as touches of history lessons or items of interest that elevate the readers' enjoyment and allow a little escape from the crime.
Deep in the Florida Everglades, the body of a woman is discovered in pieces, presumably ravaged by an alligator. Upon closer inspection, it’s determined no animal could make such perfectly precise cuts. Only a blade could do that. Wielded by a human. Soon, dozens of oil drums emerge amid the river of grass. Each one packed to the brim with body parts.
FDLE special agent Amy Larson and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, share a bad feeling that extends beyond the horrifying nature of the grim discovery. They’ve seen this kind of sadistic killing before, and when a small beige horse is discovered at the bottom of one of the barrels, they know exactly what it means. The fourth horseman of the apocalypse rides a pale horse—and his name is Death.
With so many bodies to identify, connecting one victim to the next is easier said than done. But finding a pattern in the chaos might be the only way Amy and Hunter can zero in on the killer, testing their skills as agents—and their relationship—like never before. And when the disturbing trail of clues signals these slayings are just the beginning, the agents will have to return to where it all started before it’s too late. The apocalypse is coming, and Hunter and Amy have only one chance to stop it, even if it means sacrificing each other.
