Mystery

Opening weekend at The Pearl Bed & Breakfast promises to be the social event of the season with its fabulous decor, musical performances, and specialty drinks from the Cool Vibes Cafe. But nothing goes as planned, and owner Jess Byrne soon realizes a killer has checked in for the weekend in PERIL IN PINK by Sydney Leigh, the first book in the new Hudson Valley B&B Mysteries.

Owning her own B&B is a dream come true for Jess Byrne, who bought her grandmother’s old house and property and renovated it into a chic destination in Fletcher Lake. Jess’s friend, Kat Miller, is her partner, and her brother, Nate, runs the attached bar. Jess’s ex-boyfriend, Lars Armstrong, a recent singing reality show winner, has also agreed to play on opening night. Lars is accompanied by his stepfather and manager, Bob Strapp, a man who has made many enemies in Fletcher Lake. When Lars argues with Bob and is a no-show on stage, Jess realizes Lars has let her down once again. When Bob is later found dead, Lars becomes the prime suspect and asks Jess to help prove his innocence. With a B&B full of guests, Jess has her hands full answering the handsome detective’s questions, sleuthing, and attending to her guests’ needs. When another guest ends up dead, Jess knows it's only a matter of time before her B&B gets a bad rep and her dream disappears. She needs to work fast to catch a killer before they check out and get away with murder.

PERIL IN PINK is a whole lot of fabulous fun. Filled with a cast of characters ranging from old high-school mean girls, social media twins, wannabe rock stars, quirky relatives, and a protective dog, the secondary characters keep things lively and moving. The chic B&B is the perfect setting for the guests to get into all sorts of trouble. They drink wine, splash in the pool, strike yoga poses, hide secrets, and seek revenge. It is up to Jess to figure out which guest checked in to commit murder. There is never a dull moment, as the plot moves quickly and the writing is funny and engaging. With a strong protagonist, surrounded by friends and family members who assist in the running of the B&B, this series has plenty of possibilities for more mishaps and mysteries to be solved at The Pearl in the future. PERIL IN PINK is a fantastic start to this new series.

SUMMARY

Everything is coming up rosé for innkeeper Jess Byrne until a murder on opening weekend gives her B&B’s killer vibe a whole new meaning.

Schitt’s Creek meets Only Murders in the Building in this sparkling debut mystery.

It’s the grand opening of The Pearl B&B in Hudson Valley, and owner Jess Byrne has prepared the ultimate, Insta-worthy welcome, complete with her ex-boyfriend—reality singing sensation Lars Armstrong—performing live. As guests check in and mimosas are poured, Lars arrives with his stepdad-turned-manager Bob in tow. But things go south when Bob is found dead, and Lars is the prime suspect.

After a desperate plea from Lars, and knowing the reputation of her B&B is at stake, Jess agrees to help clear Lars’ name, but the more she digs, the less sure she is that he’s innocent. Especially when he’s found at the scene of another murder.

With the guests under lockdown, the B&B in the press for all the wrong reasons, and a killer on the loose, Jess is in over her head. With the help of her best friend and business partner Kat, Jess is determined to uncover the truth before Lars is put behind bars and The Pearl is permanently cancelled.
