HER ADVENTURES IN TEMPTATION by Megan Frampton is the latest in her School for Scoundrels series. It features secretly soft-hearted artist Simeon Jones and bluestocking Lady Myrtle Allen. Myrtle convinces Simeon to help her run away to London to avoid her brother forcing her to marry. The pair then pretend to be engaged. As they start to fall in love, each has to question their own plans for the future.
I found this to be a delightful, easy read. Simeon is a unique hero for historical romance as he is not of the nobility at all. In fact, he is an orphan and a painter by trade. A poor one at that. While I love my dukes, earls, and viscounts, sometimes it’s nice to have a regular guy for a hero. Simeon seems rather shallow in the beginning and for a bit, I thought he was going to be nothing more than an artist. Thankfully, he is revealed to be more than this throughout the title. Myrtle, meanwhile, is my absolute favorite kind of heroine: a bluestocking. Even better, she is a bluestocking completely uninterested in love and marriage. All she wants to do is study mathematics. So it was fun to see her slowly realizing she was attracted to Simeon and how she reacted to that realization.
The plot was not groundbreaking or anything as the fake engagement trope has been done many times but I still enjoyed it regardless. One of my favorite things about Frampton’s writing is that it never gets very angsty so the HEA is always believable. That doesn’t mean nothing happens or that there is no character development, however. I found this to be rather difficult to put down, honestly, as I couldn’t wait to see what Simeon and Myrtle would be up to next.
Megan Frampton’s HER ADVENTURES IN TEMPTATION is a delightful fake engagement story featuring an unconventional historical romance hero and the smart heroine he cannot resist. Can’t wait to read Frampton’s next title!
In this newest addition to the School for Scoundrels series, Simeon Jones and Lady Myrtle Allen tell all the ton that they are engaged to be wed, fully knowing that once the season is over they will quietly part ways. They each have their reasons, but neither expected love to tempt them into turning a pretense into reality!
Simeon Jones has a secret—he is soft-hearted. Despite his scandalous exterior, he will quietly give money to orphans (after all, he was one himself), animals, and damsels in distress. One such damsel is Lady Myrtle Allen—but it’s not her funds that are lacking, but rather she needs to get to London—fast.
And so begins a wild adventure. First, the pair tells all the ton that they are engaged to be wed—how else to prevent scandal once they are found together—alone! They plan to carry out this deception, fully knowing that once the season is over, they will quietly part ways. But then, they discover that they have fallen in love, which was definitely not part of their plan! Can this scandalous man and adventurous woman turn this pretense into reality?
