Mystery Amateur Sleuth | Mystery Cozy

The editor of Knitting in Style magazine has chosen Izzy Perry’s Sea Harbor Yarn Studio to help create a yarn fashion event in Sea Harbor, Massachusetts. Izzy and the rest of the Seaside Knitters are excited for this Autumn event to infuse some joy into their town, but when a local high school teacher is killed during a bird-watching excursion, the crew must put on their knitted sleuthing caps and uncover the murderer in A TWISTED SKEIN, the 17th book in the long-running Seaside Knitters Society series.

Rose and Jillian Anderson are local twins, with different tastes in men. Jillian worked at the local high school and was in love with the murdered teacher, Josh Elliott.  Rose, on the other hand, did not like her sister spending time with Josh. Why did Rose dislike Josh? As Izzy, Birdie, Cass, and Nell start to investigate Josh’s murder, they take a look at the local bird-watching group and its members. Since Birdie was the one to stumble over Josh’s body in the woods during a bird-watching event, she wonders who else in the group may have held a grudge. Furthermore, Josh was a popular teacher with students, but other faculty members at the school disliked his unconventional teaching methods. Yet, the principal, Judith Garvey, had his back. Or did she? With all these questions swirling around town, the knitting crew has a lot of tangled webs to untwist before they can identify the real motive and killer.

A TWISTED SKEIN is a delightful return to Sea Harbor, where the warmth of a familiar coastal setting, and the camaraderie of a diverse age group of local women, are appealing to new and long-time fans. The small town with its rich history, small businesses, and colorful characters, adds atmosphere and depth to the mystery. The plot is nicely woven with several different layers of the victim’s life leading to a possible motive and the ending wraps up any lingering questions. The Seaside Knitters are experts at using their wits, community connections, and sleuthing skills to get to the bottom of this entertaining mystery filled with friends, knitting, food, bird-watching, murder, and the magic that is Sea Harbor. Knitting pattern and recipe included!

SUMMARY

Set in the “idyllic world” (Publishers Weekly) of a small Massachusetts coastal community, rich in friendship and “full of suspense and human warmth” (The Washington Book Review), this skillfully written series combines intriguing mysteries with rich characters and emotional warmth.

Like every coastal town, Sea Harbor needs tourists and their dollars. But there’s something special about that time of year when summer people return to their normal lives, and the wide sandy beaches welcome back locals with their dogs and strollers. And this year, even as the season cools down, Izzy Perry’s Sea Harbor Yarn Studio is heating up, thanks to an upcoming fashion benefit . . .

The show will feature hand-knit garments, and enthusiastic knitters flock to the shop for supplies to create runway-worthy pieces. Yet Seaside Knitter Birdie is enjoying flocks of a different kind, thanks to a rekindled interest in birdwatching, a hobby she enjoyed with her late husband. Along with a small group of passionate birders, she often spends weekend mornings looking for warblers, or keeping watch for gannets and grebes. The group members themselves are almost as fascinating as the birds. It’s a lovely, special time—until Birdie makes her way through a tangle of vines and stumbles upon a fellow birder’s body.

At first, it appears to be an accidental fall, but an autopsy soon reveals that the victim died before hitting a granite boulder. When police discover a clue linking the victim to one of the Seaside Knitters, the web of suspicion grows. Before the woods are ablaze in autumn glory and the knitters have cast off the final rows on their runway projects, they’ll have to unravel secrets and ties strong enough to bind friends and neighbors together—and some that may press a killer to take another life.
