The worst of it seems to be that Stephan Dante thinks he is the King of the Vampires, and he wants Della to be his queen. The confident Della is willing to play into the vampire’s desires with the other Blackbirds as her back up. Her partner is not so thrilled with the plan, but sees no way around the need to stop Dante. He will have to trust Della, the team members, and the team’s ace in the hole: the ghosts that they see and talk to.
CURSED AT DAWN is the finale of the Blackbird Trilogy and what an ending. As a fan of the Krewe, I missed the American settings and lessons of history that author Heather Graham always offers her readers to get them into the proper mood, but this trio has been a fantastic read. Della and Mason’s partnership flourished into the perfect romance and great belief in one another. The members of the team have built into a family that trusts one another with their very lives.
CURSED AS DAWN is well written and slightly scary--because you can almost imagine these “bad guys” really existing--but the Blackbird characters involved brought in another touch of realism. They are solid law enforcement people from different walks of life as well as diverse cultures but still, they all want to bring in the bad guys and protect the innocent. As a fan of Ms. Graham and her writing style, I hope she will continue the Blackbird series as she has the Krewe of Hunters.
