Lilah Love-Mendez is back and this time it is personal. Someone has killed F.B.I. Director Murphy before she could get some much-needed answers out of him. But the biggest surprise is that she, an F.B.I. agent, has been pulled in by Homeland Security to solve his murder. This doesn't sit well with her and she moves fast to call all the people that matter to her and send them into hiding. She is worried an assassin has been sent to get rid of anyone who might be a complication.
In the meantime, Kane's plan to get rid of his uncle goes very wrong and now he has to make a decision that might affect his life with Lilah. He doesn't want to be his father, but he might have no choice.
THE GHOST ASSASSIN is Lilah Love-Mendez at her finest. She is, as usual, foul-mouthed and nasty to everyone (not caring what their rank is and they seem to expect that), all because she gets results. She also hates politics, the Society (the bad guys who have caused her a lot of pain and sorrow), liars, and cheats--which includes a lot of people she has to work with.
After a fruitless trip to D.C., Lilah comes face-to-face with the "Ghost" who informs her she has a hefty price on her head and to be careful. The "Ghost" has saved her life once before but disappeared, and does so again after the warning. Returning home to Kane, Lilah tells him of the visit with the #1 assassin and he is beyond furious. Believing his father--who isn't dead and has returned--is the one behind the death threats, Kane leaves to make things work out right.
THE GHOST ASSASSIN is one of author Lisa Renee Jones' best in the Lilah Love series. It gets better as some burning questions are answered but then another one pops up demanding an answer. Lilah and Kane are a flawed, angry, love-each-other-to-death couple. They might seem broken from the pasts they cannot escape, but together they are strong and perfectly matched.
I highly recommend all of Ms. Jones' Lilah Love stories and suggest that you read them in order, but if THE GHOST ASSASSIN is your first, you will still be able to enjoy the action-filled, emotionally-impactful read.
When someone close to Lilah is murdered in what is clearly an assassination, Lilah finds herself looking to Ghost, one of the deadliest assassins in the world. But is Ghost a friend or an enemy? Lilah's about to find out. But Ghost isn't the only one close to Lilah who may well be an enemy. Apparently, the line between friendship and murder, is bloody thin.
