Ten years ago, Tessa Scuderi lost everything she cared
about in one night. Just as her mother was killed in a car
accident while fleeing her burning store, the love of
Tessa's life, Dermot "Finn" Finnegan, was skipping town --
in her beloved car. Love-less, mother-less and car-less,
Tessa faced the prospect of raising her 10-year-old sister,
Izzy, alone. Then she loses Izzy, too. Determined to get
her back, Tessa changes her life and becomes a model
citizen. After three long years, Izzy is returned to Tessa,
but any impropriety by Tessa will have Izzy snatched away
again. The one thing Tessa knows will get Izzy taken away
again is the last prank she pulled with Finn, so she
concocts stories about Finn that are sure to keep suspicion
away from him...and her. But turning Finn into a saint has
done little to ease the anger she feels toward him, or the
longing. When she walks outside to find her car sitting in
the driveway, she knows his return is bound to bring
heartache.
All Finn wants to do is leave Tessa's car and get the heck
out of town. He has no intention of facing her, his brother
Joe or his uncle Max, but the rental car that's supposed to
be here for him is nowhere to be found. He's sure his boss,
Babs, is up to something since she's a sucker for happy
endings. But Finn knows the town is sure to hate him after
the stunts he pulled in the past. As he's trying to contact
Babs, he realizes the building he's leaning against is on
fire. It's a pet store, and Finn valiantly saves the
animals, even though the whole town will now realize he's
back. But the joke's on Finn when everyone acts happy to
see him.
When Finn sees Tessa again, he realizes that he's carried a
flame for her since he left, and now he's been warned not
to leave town until the fire investigation is over. As
Tessa informs him about the lies she told about him, Finn
finds himself wanting to be the man she describes, the man
she believes he can become. But someone is setting the
fires, and now that Izzy is looking into her mother's
death, this person is determined to stop her. Will Finn and
Tessa be able to rekindle their love, or will they all go
up in flames?
A page-turning love story with a twist of suspense, THE
COMEBACK KISS is a must-read.
In order to keep custody of her teenage sister, Tessa
Scuderi told a small (okay, big) lie to the people of Lucy's
Lake, Vermont, about what really happened ten years ago when
Dermot Finnegan took off with her virginity, her car, and
the town bell. It had been working, too, until she found her
old car parked in front of her house, keys in the ignition,
and a telltale red hair stuck to the headrest.
All Finn wanted to do was return the stupid car and get
going. But he stopped to save a burning pet shop (big
mistake), ended up kissing Tessa behind the drugstore (big
mistake, but worth it), and discovered that Tessa's been
building him up as some kind of town hereo all these years
(gonna have to puzzle that out). Now Finn has to find out
who's behind a string of mysterious fires and deal with the
heat between him and Tessa. Hey, one more kiss can't
hurt--or can it?
