Thriller Spy

Helen Warwick, age 55, recently retired from her CIA job. She’s looking forward to spending more time with her family. While babysitting a new puppy for her son, armed men arrive at the house. She eliminates them and then calls the police. She plays innocent with them, claiming to be lucky.

She can’t tell them she’s a former assassin. She can’t believe that someone is targeting her now; she’s supposed to be able to ride off into the sunset. She goes to the only person she trusts – her former boss. Together they begin to unravel the clues, which leads them to more secrets than they imagined.

SECOND SHOT by Cindy Dees is the first in a new series featuring lots of action and danger. Readers will quickly turn the pages. While it’s an action novel, there’s also a deeper story about family. Helen struggles with her children; they resent her time away during their childhood. But when they need her, she drops everything for them. Her personal life bleeds into their professional lives. Her protectiveness comes out as she does her best to keep everyone she loves safe. I’m already eager for the next book in the series.

SUMMARY

A high-intensity thriller filled with authenticity and breathtaking action from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cindy Dees, with an unforgettable heroine—a retired CIA wet work specialist whose attempt to settle back into normal life meets with resistance from enemies old and new.

Retirement isn’t easy for a former CIA assassin. For fifty-five-year-old Helen Warwick, it may be impossible. Even Helen’s family don’t know the true nature of the work she’s done for decades—the secret black ops, the sanctioned executions. But her plan to spend time reconnecting with her grown children has just been blown up—along with her son’s house—by hired killers. Why is she being targeted now—and by whom?

Years of eliminating the nation’s enemies one sniper bullet at a time has earned Helen powerful adversaries. Then there are mysterious new foes, including a psychopath dubbed The DaVinci Killer, who wages a twisted war with a rival serial killer to turn murder into art. And when he sets his sights on Helen, she may very well become his next exhibit.

From homegrown spies to Russian mafia hitmen, Helen’s ghosts don’t just haunt—they kill. And staying alive long enough to make up for the past, and protect those closest to her, will take every ounce of skill she possesses . . .
