Elsie Garrett is a master with horses. It makes sense that, in her mind, there should be an equal way to attract a man, because with a horse, all you need is patience and a carrot. Elsie is currently working on one of the Four Corners ranches. Not on her own family's ranch, but a neighbor, the McClouds.
The kids on the Four Corners ranch grew up together, with a one-room schoolhouse, etc. So Elsie has known everyone on the ranch. Her older brothers are now settled and married. Hunter McCloud has also grown up on the ranch and is about the same age as Elsie’s brothers.
He finds himself in a similar situation as her brothers, wanting to protect her and in this case protect Elsie from herself. Elsie knows horses. Elsie knows nothing about men. This means that her current attraction to a young cowhand on his ranch is troubling.
The McClouds are definitely an interesting bunch. All brothers from the same father and from different mothers. Women who basically couldn’t or wouldn’t stay with the dad. Candidly the boys had their share of difficulty with their father. So they grew up rather feral, their own word, and wild. Now things have settled a bit with one of them happily married. And their investment in the horse therapy business they were working on. And that’s where Hunter finds himself working closely with Elsie.
Elsie is way more complicated than Hunter at first considered when he offered to help her attract a cowboy that worked on the ranch. She wanted to learn how to be that woman who men actually looked at. Not like excellent with horses, responsible, but hot enough to want to really know. She was not looking for a relationship, just some chance to spread her wings. Learning more than he really expected Hunter realizes that Elsie is looking for someone to choose her. Her mother left. Her brothers are now married. People leave in Elsie’s world.
You might say Maisey Yates's COWBOY WILD is a journey to find belonging and self-worth. Sometimes it takes seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes. Letting yourself imagine being loved and in love, and taking that scary plunge. Maisie Yates once again brings to life heart-grabbing characters whose lives were built on shaky ground. Through her gift of gab, Maisey Yates's characters quickly become important, relevant, and real. Every story written by this prolific author becomes a favorite. And COWBOY WILD now sits proudly in that seat. And with an added surprise story at the end, things couldn’t be better.
Hunter McCloud is the wildest cowboy of all…until he meets the one woman even more untamed than him…
After growing up around Hunter McCloud, Elsie Garrett considers herself immune to his particular brand of cowboy. Her brother’s best friend is too big, too broad, too everything for comfort. But when relationship-shy Elsie decides it’s finally time for her to get some romantic experience, Hunter suddenly might be useful after all. Maybe he, with his many casual hookups, is the perfect cowboy to teach her how to flirt?
Elsie is the best horse wrangler around, but Hunter can see she doesn’t know anything about men—orphaned as a child and brought up by her brothers, she’s so wild she’s practically feral. But Hunter has always looked out for her, and he’s not about to stop now. Until Hunter realizes he’s playing with fire. Elsie might not understand the chemistry slowly building between them, but he does, and it’s burning stronger and hotter than anything he’s ever experienced. And when Elsie decides to act on it, Hunter knows that it could threaten to consume them both.
In the bonus novella Her Wayward Cowboy, can a returning cowboy win back the love of the woman he left behind?
