HOPE CREEK

Women's Fiction Contemporary | Romance

HOPE CREEK is a work by the family of Janet Dailey. Unfinished manuscripts and ideas were left when Janet Dailey passed. Her books are published with her name as the author, but in reality, it is another story that combines the legacy of Janet Dailey. Fans of Janet Dailey will fully recognize these elements in ensuring books that continue to be published under the Dailey family trust. If HOPE CREEK is an example, then I am looking forward to these new stories. I had been a huge fan and was sad to hear of her passing. I was a little surprised when I came across HOPE CREEK, because I was aware of her publishing issues.

HOPE CREEK is grittier and more striking than past books by this very prolific author. Her team did an amazing job regarding character development and relationship building. Dialog is spot on with characters carefully maintaining their integrity. The scenic work is wonderful.

HOPE CREEK is essentially about oyster farming, both traditional and with more modern ideas. Living in or around HOPE CREEK there are two families whose financial status couldn't be more different. Their lives are also very different and yet there is an unmistakable connection. And that is the water and the oyster industry.

Beau is a Sutton. Kit is a Teague. You might say they were brought up on different sides of the street. Kit and her family, brother Mackey, sister Viv and dad Royal just suffered the sad and tragic loss of her mother. Kit returned home after a long absence, which is a bone of contention between her and Viv. Their story unfolds with care in HOPE CREEK.

Beau had returned home to HOPE CREEK with his son Cal after the passing of his wife. Along with his father Nate, they have enlarged their oyster harvesting business to include masses of cages. Some in the community are not necessarily fond of this new development. While we are entertained by the relationship between these two families, we are very aware of trust issues between certain characters.

HOPE CREEK reads like a snappy novel and is a real page-turner. You can't help but get sucked in by these amazing characters and their struggles. The obvious family closeness and devotion are particularly noteworthy. In many instances, the story feels extraordinarily read and potent. Again kudos to the folks that penned and researched this terrific book.

I'm not sure how many of these manuscripts have been uncovered but if the stories are anything like HOPE CREEK they will be well received. Looking forward to them.

SUMMARY

Fans of Linda Lael Miller and Robyn Carr will adore this heartfelt romance set in South Carolina, as old rivalries, new ventures, and long-lost loves converge when the daughter who once walked away from the dark chaos of her childhood returns to her Lowcountry hometown, hoping to put the past to rest. For Kit Teague, the island of Hope Creek, South Carolina, is filled with joyful memories of being out on the water with her beloved father. But her small hometown is also the place where her mother battled mental illness—and lost. Returning home to put her mother to final rest, Kit discovers a family divided by grief—and wounds so deep her twin sister has turned against their father—and Kit. Not only has Viv moved up the creek to join a rival fishing business, she’s barricaded herself behind Beau Sutton, the boy Kit once loved from afar. The man who stirs something deep within Kit even now . . . Amid old-fashioned oyster roasts, starlit outings on the creek and sun-drenched fishing expeditions, Kit finds hope for a new life and renewed love. Neither the whispered scandals of the past nor the rift between their families will keep her from discovering the joy she and Beau can share…
