SHADOW FALLEN is a fascinating look at medieval history - though some of it has been adapted to fit with author Sherrilyn Kenyon's dream-hunters series. Valteri's life has always been tough since anything out of the norm back then was usually signs of evil and Valteri, with his dual eye color, never had a chance. He did seem to relish the fear others had of him, but I think that part was just so people would leave him alone.
Ariel was a soul gatherer. She was taking the souls of the departed soldiers when she was cursed by a witch. She didn't know where she was after the curse and could have been afraid of everything, but she wasn't afraid of Valteri. Their slow burning romance was icing on the cake for this book. There were several secrets that had to play out which added to the page turning readers will find themselves doing. Also, some fan favorites were brought in (Thorn and Shadow, and later Acheron himself) - from past books to add spice to SHADOW FALLEN. Any time readers get glimpses of favorite characters be they leaders of hellchasers, or a dark hunter, they are always welcome.
In the end of this book a sacrifice is made but who makes it, how it is done, and whether our couple get their HEA is something you will have to get SHADOW FALLEN in your hands to find out. SHADOW FALLEN is an amazing read, well-written, and with a smooth flow. This story takes the reader easily through this nonstop adventure, filled with danger and intrigue and - yes - a happily ever after!
