Fantasy Urban

Raised by the most powerful pack in North America, Mercedes Thompson knows all about werewolves and their rules, even though she's not one of them. A Volkswagen mechanic by trade, Mercy is a walker, able to change into coyote form. Not as strong as a werewolf, Mercy can still hold her own. When Mac, a newly formed werewolf, walks into her shop, instead of following werewolf law and taking the matter to her neighbor Adam, the alpha wolf, Mercy decides to wait and see what happens. When things get bad, Mercy has no choice but to contact Adam and tell him about Mac. By then though, it's too late. Adam is injured during an attack at his home, his human daughter, Jesse, is kidnapped and Mac is murdered and left at Mercy's doorstep as a warning. Not knowing what do to or who to trust, Mercy borrows her vampire client's van and takes a severely injured Adam back to the pack that raised her. Once back, Mercy has to face Samuel, the man she left behind, and all the old hate and animosity from the enemies she made during her time with the pack. With Adam's ability to heal quickly, he and Mercy, with Samuel in tow, are soon back on the road to getting Adam's daughter back. Unraveling the mystery to the person responsible for the coup may be harder than they think. The master plan involves all of them and if they don't figure it out soon enough, it'll be the end to the packs as they know them. MOON CALLED is the first in a new series by Patricia Briggs. Mercy is a strong character that can hold her own but one of the things I really liked about her is that she seems to know her own limitations. If it's something she's not capable of, she'll back down and doesn't pout about it. The relationship she has with both Samuel and Adam is absorbing and I can't wait to see how things get worked out with them. Fans of Kim Harrison's series will be delighted with this new offering. From shape-shifters, to witches to vampires and more, this story has a little to offer everyone. Left wanting a whole lot more, I can't wait to see what this series has in store for us next.
