Amish | Romance | Holiday

After enduring the heartbreak of her beloved husband-to-be dropping her virtually days before their wedding date for another woman, Liz has tightly boxed up her hurt and heartache, closed her heart and manages to survive by staying busy at every task and job she can do!

Now considered an old maidel at the ripe old age of 24 by her Amish community, Liz is not so bothered by that anymore. She has started to enjoy her life again and laughs with her workmates at a job she loves.  Things have gone well for the past eight years; but unfortunately, life has changed there and she is unhappy.  A young man, Mathew Zook, has taken over as the new owner of the “Dutch Eatery” in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is tall and so handsome; yet, so clueless as to the smooth running of the place. Not only that, he constantly plagues her with questions. Why should she put up with this?  She thinks she should quit and just help her mom prepare for her sister’s upcoming wedding.  Yet, why is her heart racing when she bumps into Mathew at “a supper” with her long time friend, Esther?

Linda Byler, the bestselling author of A CHRISTMAS ENGAGEMENT, is truly “A Gifted Writer” and I am so impressed by this entrancing and charming romance. I have read many Amish books and this is certainly one of the best I have read in a while!  What I particularly enjoyed is the unfolding of a mature romance as I find myself waiting with as much anticipation as Liz for the first sweet kiss!

Byler is very much an authentic writer and she lovingly describes all the details of the tight community where Liz lives as she herself grew up Amish and continues to be an active member in her Amish church in central Pennsylvania. I particularly enjoy how Byler describes family life and how involved the community is in marriage preparations as well as with the wedding ceremony. Byler is the author of a number of other Amish romance stories and she writes them all in her own handwriting!

I don’t want to give away more of the story, however, I can definitely affirm that readers who love Amish romance stories will love this captivating story and its special Christmas engagement!  So, get your copy and get spirited away to find out just what happens with Matthew and Liz!

SUMMARY

Bestselling Amish novelist Linda Byler spins a sweet tale of heartache, disappointment, and ultimately hopes fulfilled at Christmastime.

Liz had been in love once, had even been engaged. In fact, the wedding had been planned, the barn cleaned, and the celery was set to be harvested to make the traditional wedding soup. Just two weeks before the day she was to exchange vows with her beloved, he changed his mind, and that was that.

The humiliation was almost as bad as the heartbreak. The whole community had celebrated her engagement, had participated in the wedding planning, had started giving her advice on keeping a home and raising children. When the wedding was canceled, no one knew what to say. She had to bear the pitying looks and awkward glances for many months. She vowed never to be such a fool again, never to trust her heart to a man who could just up and leave her with hardly an explanation. She'd rather be an old maid than go through that again.

Years pass, and Liz has made peace with her life as a single woman, a "leftover blessing" as the Amish say. She can admit to herself that Matthew, the owner of the Amish restaurant at the market where she works, is handsome. And she is aware that he is single. But she reminds herself over and over that it's not worth feeling anything for the man. He's her boss and that's it. So why does she look forward to work so much every day? And why can't she make her heart beat at a normal pace when he comes near?
