"Enjoyable Characters but problems with Series Continuity"

Fresh Fiction Review

Her Renegade Cowboy

HER RENEGADE COWBOY is described as the final book in the Moving Violations Trilogy by Lora Leigh.  It follows the theme of the other books with the couple in instant lust and falling into bed fairly quickly for marathons of sex. The backstories for the main characters are intriguing enough to make you want to learn more especially mixed with a bit of suspense.  My biggest gripe is the continuity problems when the series is read as a whole.

The first book, ONE TOUGH COWBOY,  involved Sheriff Hunter Steele and Samantha who is hired as a deputy during the book.  Hunter has a nephew named Levi which is also the name of the main character in the third book - but not the same Levi.  Ms. Leigh couldn't come up with a different name?  Hunter's friend, Jacob, is prominently featured in the first book and is the main character in the second book (STRONG SILENT COWBOY), but, Jacob's personality is vastly different in book one vs. book two.  Book three focuses on Jacob's cousin Lily of whom we saw glimpses in Book two.

In HER RENEGADE COWBOY, Book three, the town Sheriff is named Dwight Davidson and there is no mention of Hunter or Samantha anywhere in the book.  What?  Individually the books are enjoyable romantic suspense novels with more focus on the steamy bedroom scenes over the story.  As a series, the errors disappointed me.  I do hope to see future books set in Deerhaven (or Deer Haven as the town is called on Books 2 and 3) and see stories for the Culpepper brothers and Lily's sister, Shay.

SUMMARY

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh comes Her Renegade Cowboy, the final book in the Moving Violations trilogy…

Levi Roberts is one of Jacob's cowboys and a former Ranger. He's chosen to work undercover to investigate some allegations against a professor. And nothing makes it better than Lily, Jacob's cousin. She's an elementary school teacher with a lovely, prickly exterior. Getting past it has become the high point of his life. Until he learns why Lily is so hard to get close to.

Lily's trust on men has been broken by a previous experience. And now this new cowboy working her cousin's ranch tempts her to trust again. But when she gives herself to him and opens her heart, it’s only to learn he lied to her all along. She runs from him and manages to find herself kidnapped by the very professor Levi is investigating. Her only chance of survival is if Levi heads back to her home to fix what he broke: their hearts.
