Take a thrilling twisty tension-filled ride in Mary Burton’s latest, DON’T LOOK NOW.  Austin Homicide Detective, Jordan Poe, is as tough as they come.   Having dealt with her own family’s addictions, Jordan is resilient and street smart.   Now she’s up against a ruthless killer that has a similar MO to what happened to her sister, Avery, two years ago.   Avery survived her ordeal, but will Jordan?

A monster is killing women in Austin, Texas.  Not only is he killing them, but also he is deriving pleasure from watching them suffocate by wrapping them in sheets of plastic.  Jordan Poe is called to investigate the death of a Jane Doe left in an abandoned house.  The manner of death has similarities to an assault her sister experienced two years prior.  The killer is targeting young women who are struggling with substance abuse addictions.  When another body appears weeks later with the same MO, Jordan knows they have a serial killer on their hands.  When a third girl goes missing, Texas Ranger, Carter Spencer, is called in to take over.  Jordan is unhappy with this transfer of power, but when Jordan herself is injured and loses her vision at a crime scene, she realizes Ranger Spencer will be her best chance at stopping this monster and keeping her sister safe.

Burton’s DON’T LOOK NOW takes readers on a tense-filled ride through the dangerous landscape of addiction.  The players are predatory and abusive and the killer’s MO keeps evolving into a more dark and sinister place.  Homicide Detective, Jordan Poe, is a tough character who has dealt with the fallout of her own family’s addictions.  She is fiercely protective of her sister, an ex-addict, who is trying to do better.  When Jordan loses her vision, and must rely on others for assistance, her tenacity shines through.  Filled with several possible suspects from a shady defense attorney to a notorious drug dealer who pimps out his girlfriends, readers will not guess the identity of the monster until the very end.   Good solid writing and a suspense-filled story make this a highly entertaining addictive read you’ll find hard to put down.

SUMMARY

A homicide detective in the dark. A serial killer on the loose. Both have their obsessions in a nerve-twisting novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton.

Austin homicide detective Jordan Poe is hunting a serial killer she fears is the same man who assaulted her sister, Avery, two years ago. The details line up: the victims are the same age, same type, dead by the same grim MO. Luckily Avery survived. But the terrible memories linger, making Jordan more determined than ever to stop this monster in his tracks.

Texas Ranger Carter Spencer isn’t one to poach on a detective’s territory. Yet no matter how resentful a capable lone wolf like Jordan is, when she is attacked at a third crime scene and suffers a trauma that leaves her with limited vision, it’s up to Carter to help Jordan navigate a world she no longer recognizes. He needs her instinct, her experience, and her fearless resolve to crack this case. A case that’s about to get even darker.

A stranger is watching. He’s closing in on his ultimate prey. And no one but the killer can see what’s coming.
