What starts out as a simple escape from an uncomfortable situation somewhat quickly escalates into a dangerous one. One could possibly think of the victim of this story as rather naive but that would be truly unfair. In the world of the internet and such, people become unwilling victims of fraud all too easily. It just makes it more important to be diligent with personal information. But what happens when you realize someone has opened a bank account in your name, with all your personal information intact, and then deposits a huge sum of money? Annie is a financial expert which makes it even somewhat unrealistic that she would fall prey to such a scheme. But for now, Annie needs a safe place to land until she can hopefully clear her name and her reputation.
Annie winds up in Devils Door, Wyoming, a blimp on the map as far as she is concerned. Her uncle is a local banker and will surely give her a place to hide and regroup. She certainly doesn’t expect her troubles to follow her here to a small ranch town. But Annie quickly realizes that no place is safe enough. And unfortunately, she also realizes that she just may put others in jeopardy.
Annie has followed her family into the finance world. She works with clients to help them manage their investments for their future. As the facts of her duplicity become uncovered all roads seem to point to Annie. She had the means, know-how, and opportunity. Perhaps it was a case of greed. But when Jonas meets Annie all he sees is a bright light, something that is missing from his life.
Jonas is a well-known author who likes his privacy. So his creative work is done at a little cabin on his family’s large ranch. Part of a large family has its advantages and disadvantages, but this is a family that takes care of its own and is well known in Devils Door for having extraordinary resources and being vastly resourceful.
Jonas knows his family has his back but when he approaches them to help Annie, he is unsure what their reaction will be. Annie’s and Jonas’s families have a history. One not easily dismissed. But one thing Jonas is sure of, his family won’t turn their back on someone he cares about, and Annie has captured his attention.
What I love about MEANT TO BE MY COWBOY and the Wranglers of Wyoming series is that we have come full circle with this remarkable group of characters. And in MEANT TO BE MY COWBOY, we are reunited with them all. Such an amazing voyage thanks to R. C. Ryan who creatively kept a group of fabulous characters alive and viable for so many stories.
A woman on the run must trust her family's sworn enemy in this thrilling tale by one of the best in cowboy romance.
When Annie Dempsey is framed in a bank fraud scheme, she suddenly finds herself on the run. Returning to the little town of Devil's Door, Wyoming to begin a quiet new life, Annie has no interest in romance.
