Matthew Keating thought he’d survived the worst politics could have to offer. After a failed military operation costs him the re-election as President of the United States, Matthew is ready to settle into a peaceful retirement in New Hampshire. His daughter, Mel, also lives with him along with some of his regular Secret Service agents, including David Stahl, the special agent in charge of his detail. Unfortunately, events from his tumultuous decision involving a terrorist have now come back to haunt Matthew. What lines will Matthew have to cross when his own family is at stake?
THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER is the second collaboration between James Patterson and Bill Clinton and is fast paced and full of intrigue. I had my reservations about reading THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER as the first book, THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING, had far too many political monologues for my tastes in fiction; I’ll read nonfiction for that level of politics. The two books are not connected in any way other than the author/collaborators are the same so feel free to skip the first one and dive right into THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER as it’s a real treat for fans of action thrillers!
I love the characters in THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER! Mel is one heck of a strong female character, and I love that she reflects back on lessons she was taught and stays strong in the face of horrific circumstances. Matthew is the kind of honest and strong person you’d hope to have as a president, and I appreciate how much he cares for his family as well as the families of others. But oh man, it’s David who is the real hero of THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER! While he’s only a secondary character, it’s his actions and his heart that truly drew me in and made me care about the story line.
THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER is one heck of a thrill ride! Yes, the story line is somewhat improbable, but James Patterson and Bill Clinton pull it off by keeping the action tight and the tension level high. I thoroughly enjoyed THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER and look forward to further endeavors from Patterson and Clinton. If you love thrillers, THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER may be just what you’re looking to read next!
