THE LADY HAS A PAST brings readers back to Burning Cove and the lives of some of its residents. Raina Kirk is the local private investigator who is the lover of the secretive and intriguing club owner Luther Pell. She takes on an apprentice, though she really isn't sure why, Lyra Brazier. The new resident of Burning Cove wants to make her own way in life and becoming a P.I. is just what she wants to do.
When Raina suddenly leaves town and then disappears from the luxury health spa she is tracked to, Lyra goes by instinct and knows something is wrong. She gets help through Luther, who is furious that Raina left without telling him. But her helper isn't exactly what she expected as an associate of Luther's. Simon Cage appears to be a mild-mannered, antique book dealer, but he has a secret ability that will help lead them to the missing woman.
While trying not to fall for each other, though that is a lost cause, the couple finds themselves in a deeper quagmire than expected. There is more happening at this spa than anyone could have imagined and Simon and Lyra find themselves thrown in the middle and fighting for not only their lives but others - as well as the peace of mind to those who have been done wrong at this spa.
I believe that THE LADY HAS A PAST is the book fans have been looking for in this series, as we have been intrigued by Raina and wanted to know her past. She and Luther make a perfect team for a mystery. With each book, we get pieces of Luther's life, but Raina's past has stayed mysterious. The mystery is cleared, but the danger keeps coming from a number of different places - including a bit of a mystery back in Burning Cove.
THE LADY HAS A PAST is a dual romance, adventure-filled read. Author Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) knows how to blend personalities to fit together perfectly as is the case of Lyra and Simon who could not be more opposite. Lyra is the type of woman who people tend to talk to, which is excellent for her apprenticeship as a P.I. Simon's past is one he keeps secret but it comes back and he must face the pain that had changed his life and it is Lyra who helps him face everything. There are a number of past couples that make some kind of appearance in THE LADY HAS A PAST including Oliver Ward and his wife, Irene (The Girl Who Knew Too Much); Hidden Beach Inn owner Amalie and her husband Matthias Jones (Tightrope); and Vivian Brazier (Lyra's sister) and Nick Sundridge (Close Up). It is always great to revisit old friends and see what they are doing since their book.
As always Ms. Quick spins an amazing tale of the glamorous lifestyle of the rich and wicked, good vs. bad, romance and love, and THE LADY HAS A PAST will leave you impatiently waiting for more.
