WICKED ALL NIGHT is the third installation in the Night Rebelurban fantasy/paranormal series by the wonderful Jeaniene Frost. The Night Rebel series is linked to Frost's several other vampire series, all in the Night Huntress universe. My absolute favorite couple in the Night Huntress series is Cat and Bones, and they do play a small role here. We get to see many of the other perennial fan favorites as well such as Mencheres and Vlad (yes, that Vlad Drakul!) in cameo roles. This book should absolutely be read in order, after the rest of the series. New readers would be lost trying to start with WICKED ALL NIGHT due to the extensive backstories.
Veritas is a demigod, half-vampire and half-immortal. She's pretty kickass, which is always enjoyable. She had left her job as a Law Guardian for the vampire council in order to defeat a demon in book 2. Ian is her highly irreverent vampire lover who is a pretty wicked fighter and has some rockin' magic skills. I always enjoy Ian's snark and also his ingenuity. For most of WICKED ALL NIGHT, both Ian and Veritas are trying to capture two demons who escaped from the netherworld before they can conquer the human race as well as all the vampires on the earthly plane. Both Ian and Veritas keep recklessly leaping into danger to try to protect the other one, without making any joint decisions or working as a team. This gets a little old, but they mature into acting as a team and learn to rely on their friends and allies for support to defeat the evil menacing their world.
WICKED ALL NIGHT is heavily biased toward action, without much sexytimes or character development. I did feel a bit winded at the end of the book from the nonstop breath-holding that the relentless pace demanded. WICKED ALL NIGHT is probably the weakest of this series, in my opinion, but is still a diverting action read. Frost's typical funny banter, one of her writing strengths, keeps me entertained. Frost's WICKED ALL NIGHT loosely ties up the Veritas/Ian thread but leaves room for a fuller Happily Ever After in future books.
Set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress World, ancient deities are poised to wreak havoc, unless vampires Veritas and Ian can stop them … in this thrilling Night Rebel novel!
