As a GhostWalker with an extremely unique ability, Rubin Campo is used to Diego, his brother, and the rest of his team constantly trying to protect him. That doesn’t mean he has to like it though. To get away from most of the coddling, Rubin and Diego make their annual visit to their homestead in the Appalachian Mountains a few weeks early only to find it’s already being occupied by a stranger.

Jonquille is one of the first GhostWalker experiments that failed. Unable to be around people for long due to her inability to control her lightning, Jonquille tracked down Rubin to see if he could help her become normal. The moment they meet, their connection is fused, but Jonquille has another motive for seeking out Rubin, one that might end up getting her killed.

I have been catching up on a lot of TBR series while waiting out this pandemic and Christine Feehan’s GhostWalker series was one of the first ones I tackled. I knew the series would keep me busy for a while but as soon as I finished book sixteen, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next one. LIGHTNING GAME delves deep into the lives of the Campo brothers and it was quite heartbreaking. Usually, it’s the female characters that have really horrific pasts, typically thanks to Whitney who experimented on them, but the backstory on the Campo family tragedies was just gut-wrenching. It was one thing after another until just the two remained, so you can see why the brothers are so protective of each other.

I love the slow burn relation build between Rubin and Jonquille. Other books in the series have jumped right into things, which is always great, but sometimes it’s nice to enjoy the anticipation. There were many aspects that I loved about LIGHTNING GAME. Jonquille is a very strong heroine who's determined to protect the people around her, even from herself. The secondary characters really suck you in also, especially Luther who is just so entertaining on his own. I hope we get to see him again when Diego gets his own story. If you’re a fan of the series or just want to read a good book that’ll captivate you, you need to grab this one. LIGHTNING GAME is an emotional rollercoaster you won’t want to get off.

SUMMARY

Danger and passion fuse in this electrifying GhostWalker novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

GhostWalker Rubin Campos’s rough upbringing made him into the man he is today: strong, steadfast, and wary of outsiders. When he and his brother return to their family’s homestead in the Appalachian Mountains, he can immediately sense that a stranger has taken up residence in their cabin—a woman who just happens to be a GhostWalker too.

Jonquille is deceptively delicate, but clearly a fighter. She also doesn’t seem to care that Rubin could kill her where she stands. She sought him out, wanting to connect on their shared interest in electrical charges. One of the first failed GhostWalker experiments, Jonquille can produce lightning with her body, but she can’t control it.

Their connection is magnetic, their abilities in sync. Rubin knows she’s his match, the answer to a lifetime of pain and intense loneliness. But Jonquille came to him with hidden intentions, ones that threaten to destroy their bond before it can truly begin....
