As one of the best trackers for the Foundation, North Chastain uses his paranormal talent to track down psychic criminals that wouldn’t be caught otherwise. Unfortunately, after his last job, he’s been slowly losing his talent. If that’s not enough, his father recently slipped into a coma after being attacked with a paranormal artifact and North is the only person who has the ability to track down the culprit and save his father. In order to track down the relic to reverse whatever was done to his father, he’s going to need some help. When he ends up with a go-between with less than 4 months of experience and a shady past, he’s certain things aren’t looking up for him.
Antique expert Sierra Raines didn’t expect to become a go-between in the obsessive world of paranormal artifacts trading but after losing her job and her reputation in Portland, she’s in Seattle looking for a fresh start. What better place for a psychic to work than in paranormal artifacts trading. As a go-between, Sienna’s job is to procure and deliver items that have a psychic provenance. Taking on her latest client gives her plenty of reservations but considering North is backed by the Foundation and that guarantees Sierra will get paid, she can’t afford to be too picky. When the hunt for the relic takes them to Fogg Lake and the ashes of Bluestone Project, a government-sanctioned project that went wrong and ended up leaving the townsfolk a little different, the past rears its head but not everyone wants it uncovered.
A little bit romantic suspense, a little bit paranormal, a little bit mystery; ALL THE COLORS OF NIGHT is a wonderful blend of everything I love to read. For the second book in the Fogg Lake series, Jayne Ann Krentz takes us deeper into the experiment that left an entire town with psychic powers. As old mysteries are finally solved, new questions keep you wanting to dig deeper. Anyone who has read Krentz’s Arcane series will recognize the Jones name when it pops up. I’m hoping Krentz eventually melds the two series together as there are a lot of loose threads just waiting to be cleaned up. Plus, I just love both series.
As usual, Ms. Krentz does an amazing job of balancing her characters with each other. North is a grandson of a great magician who has a job he loves but is losing it thanks to his talent slowly dying. Sierra grew up in an intentional community with artists, hippies and psychics and hasn’t been able to find her true calling yet but she hasn’t given up trying. There are so many things from this book that leave me wanting more. The Swan Antique Store has played a role in both books in the series and I really hope Krentz dives into the mysteries of the shop and its owner in the next book, and I can’t get enough of mysterious Fogg Lake. A typical Jayne Ann Krentz page-turner that you won’t be able to put down, ALL THE COLORS OF NIGHT, like all good books, will leave you wanting more.
