Thorn Grayson had respect for Judge W.T. Landusky but even more gratitude. When it came to life altering events the Judge had been the one to take a chance on a rebellious teen. If and when the Judge ever needed anything there was no doubt in Thorn’s mind that he would be there. His relationship with the old Judge was that important to him.
In HEARTBREAKER B.J. Daniels treats us to an adventure of sorts and naturally a mystery involving mistaken identity and a botched up kidnapping. All the elements needed to assure the reader of still another entertaining story by B.J. Daniels. HEARTBREAKER is actually the second of the Montana Justice series.
Thorn is directed to a plane crash site in the mountains near his cabin. The Judge alerted him to the fact that a friend of his granddaughter, a suspected victim of kidnapping, was on that plane and the question now – are there any survivors? So Thorn is really unsure of what to expect. The only person he finds alive at the site is the granddaughter. But this woman doesn’t act at all like a spoiled, pampered twenty something. This woman is stubborn and resourceful.
JJ realizes that she has been mistaken for that granddaughter. She naturally does not accept Thorn’s account of why he was there. Both of them are suspicious and skeptical.
The entire kidnapping plan became twisted and snarly as the days progress. It became pretty clear that there was no shortage of suspects. The list was long and fortunately, the Judge knew that the most important thing was to keep it under his hat. The fewer people that knew details the better. His gut dictated that no one was above suspicion.
Danger seemed to hide behind each turn on the road. Thorn and JJ were constantly looking over their shoulders. Until Geneva was found Thorn knew that JJ was in peril. It was obvious that JJ had a role to play in this kidnapping scheme. She was a victim of being in the wrong place as they say and yet it seems as if that just might be too simplistic. There was nothing simple about this kidnapping. And as in most B.J. Daniels stories, there is always room for still another shoe to drop. Gasps of surprise right to the very end. That’s why all B.J. Daniels tales are so satisfying and HEARTBREAKER will not disappoint. Guaranteed.
