Thriller Serial Killer | Suspense

Wendi Corsi Staub’s last of The Foundlings series, THE BUTCHER'S DAUGHTER, is the final mystery of Amelia Crenshaw' and NYPD Detective Stockton Barnes's lost love ones. I read the second novel and found it easy to know what was going on and who was who. This final book, even though it is really good, took me a bit longer to put the pieces together. With new characters many of whom have more than one name, I found it challenging to keep people straight, especially with the references from 2017 and back to 1968. Additionally, Amelia and Stockton both had their own stories moving forward, and this also made it a little more of a trial not to get lost. I would say it was roughly halfway through the book before I started to understand who is who and where the story was going.

Amelia Crenshaw is an investigating genealogist. As she tries to find her own birth parents, she comes across lies that she has been told her whole life that help her discover who she really is. She is helping Detective Stockton Barnes to find his long-lost daughter and they must do so before it is too late because her life is in danger. Someone has a score to settle with Barnes and they know just how to do it.

Overall, THE BUTCHER’S DAUGHTER is a brilliant read once you get into it. The storyline itself had me sad at times and happy at others. It brought me back to the injustices of today. So be ready with tissues. The ending is really sensational. If you are good at keeping up with names and such then you will love reading it. Even if you may struggle as I did, the end is worth holding out. Basically, this is a serial killer thriller to read!

SUMMARY

New York Times bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub is the master of psychological suspense. In her latest thriller, an investigative genealogist digs for her own biological roots, well aware that some secrets are better left buried.

Investigative genealogist Amelia Crenshaw solves clients’ genetic puzzles, while hers remains shrouded in mystery. Now she suspects that the key to her birth parents’ identities lies in an unexpected connection to a stranger who’s hired her to find his long-lost daughter. Bracing herself for a shocking truth, Amelia is blindsided by a deadly one.

NYPD Detective Stockton Barnes had walked away from his only child for her own good. He’ll lay down his life to protect her if he and Amelia can find out where—and who—she is. But someone has beat them to it, and she has a lethal score to settle.
