Wow! We’ve had to wait a while for a new Dresden Files book, but Jim Butcher does not disappoint! PEACE TALKS knocks it out of the park as we’ve got multiple intrigues, various treacheries, and all sorts of emotional entanglements just to stir the pot. Throw in some major supernatural baddies and PEACE TALKS is the epitome of what urban fantasy is!
PEACE TALKS is the 16th book in the Dresden Files and must be read in the context of the series to be enjoyed and fully appreciated. Events from the past are coming back to haunt Harry as it seems everyone either is after him or wants his favor. He’s struggling to find a balance between his various commitments, particularly the ones to family and loved ones.
Harry Dresden has long been one of my absolute favorite urban fantasy heroes. Heck, maybe even my favorite hero of any series of any genre. Jim Butcher really puts Harry through the wringer in PEACE TALKS as Harry is trying to do what is right while still honoring various commitments he’s honored to obey. I love that we’re seeing more of his daughter and Mouse in the process.
PEACE TALKS is urban fantasy at its finest! Jim Butcher is one of the greats of the genre, and the complexity of the character development and world-building in the Dresden Files demonstrates why. My only caution about PEACE TALKS is that it ends with a cliffhanger, as the stage is set for the next book, BATTLE GROUND, and you’re going to want to get your hands on both books immediately!
