Romance Suspense

Agent Davis Rogers, former Army Ranger and now a member of TCD, wants to be the lead on the investigation of the failed body armor. Those defective protective gear cost the lives of soldiers, and most especially, a friend of his died that day. He is sent on his SECRET INVESTIGATION but with the help of Petrov Armor's CEO Leila Petrov.

Leila is fighting for the right to be CEO of her father's company, especially with the mugging death of her father just recently. The board and co-workers think she is too young for the job, and her decisions are costing them money. Was it a horrible accident, or is there a traitor working to undermine all the company has stood for?

SECRET INVESTIGATION is the second book of the Tactical Crime Division series written by different authors for Harlequin and is a stand-alone. One of the things the Intrigue books have is at the beginning they offer a cast of characters that gives you a little lineup of who to expect in the book. It gives an overview and starts you out with the knowledge of who is who. In this offering, there is a side story that ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, but the main story comes to a very nice finale.

Leila Petrov is more than ready to prove herself, but when she is handed the help of an investigator that makes her heart beat faster, she finds herself in a bit of dilemma. She wants to know the truth, but she doesn't want Davis Rogers to disappear. Very nice romance that seems to surprise both characters. The investigation is solidly written, giving readers a chance to do their own sleuthing. I have to admit that I wanted someone else to be the bad guy, but wasn't overly surprised at who it was. Sorry,  you must read SECRET INVESTIGATION to find out who it was and why.

The secondary romance/investigation that is part of this book involves Kane Bradshaw and F.B.I profiler Dr. Melinda Larsen who work together and find themselves in a dangerous situation. I enjoyed their banter and the depth of emotion from these two and hope that in future offerings, they get their HEA.

SECRET INVESTIGATION is a very good romance, mystery with a lot of questions asked and answered though those answers are given with a few unexpected and intriguing twists and turns.
