Cass Donovan is having nightmares every time she dozes off. The nightmare is always the same, featuring a ghostly woman asking for help. Meanwhile, a new Mystical Musings client has her uneasy even as she feels obligated to provide him with a psychic reading. Worse yet, her dog finds a skeleton on the beach and now Cass is in the midst of a murder investigation and the town gossip is that a ghost led her to the dead body.
CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER is the third book in the Bay Island Psychic series and is best appreciated in the context of the series as a whole. While the mystery itself stands on its own merits, CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER has a lot of changes for our characters and it helps to be familiar with their relationships in order to fully understand the changes occurring.
I missed that we didn't have as much of the camaraderie between Cass, Bee, and Stephanie, but Lena Gregory focuses more on their individual character development in CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER. Cass is starting to embrace, albeit reluctantly, her abilities as a psychic and medium. Up until now, Cass hasn't perceived herself as a true psychic or medium, instead using her intuition and psychiatric training to help guide her words. I think I like the new Cass even better as her ambivalence about her abilities was a bit off-putting at times.
I love the Bay Island Psychic series and CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER is another fun entry in the series. Dog lovers will appreciate Cass' dog, Beast, as his antics are hysterical! Quirky characters, an enjoyable mystery, and a dog who definitely needs obedience training- what's not to like about CLAIRVOYANT AND PRESENT DANGER?
