Mystery

Bella Jordan has started a new life for herself and her son Max in Lily Dale. Lily Dale is a strange little town. It seems that most of the people there have a sixth sense. Bella's neighbor Misty Arden is raising her son Jiffy and she also does readings for people. Misty also sees Elvis a lot. One day everything is going to change for the town. Bella sees something out of her window; she just can't tell if it is a real human or a ghost. Misty is trying to give a reading to someone, but all that comes up is a school bus with her father who has passed driving it. Could the two things have something in common? Several things happen the next day, a body is found on the lake, Lily Dale is about to get hit with a blizzard, and Jiffy goes missing. While everyone is out looking for Jiffy, Misty finds herself confronted by a strange man in the woods. Misty feels that this man may know what has happened to Jiffy. Bella speaks with Max about Jiffy's disappearance, Max claims that Jiffy was kidnapped and he knew he was going to be. Nothing seems to be adding up. Who would want to kidnap Jiffy? Not his father, who is overseas. Finally, the mystery man tells Misty the only thing that he knows about Jiffy's whereabouts: he claims some women put him in the back of her car and drove off. So in the DEAD OF WINTER. I am not a fan of snow, but in this book I enjoyed it. At times this book got a little slow. But don't give up keep reading because it quickly picks up the pace. Staub kept me guessing as to who could have kidnapped Jiffy, along with the connection the man in the woods, and all of the havoc that was going on in Lily Dale. Keep reading this book all of your questions will be answered!

SUMMARY

Just as a murderer dumps his corpse into the lake across Valley View in Lily Dale, Bella Jordan happens to be at her window, not quite realizing what she’s seeing. Unbeknownst to her, the killer spots her silhouette and prowls straight to her door. That is, until he’s interrupted by a black cat. A superstitious gambler, he takes off, but Bella’s seen too much, and he vows to return.

Jiffy Arden, a neighborhood kid looking for the black cat and stumbling across the killer, begins to have premonitions of being kidnapped during the season’s first snowstorm. Sure enough, when it strikes, he vanishes, never arriving home from the bus stop. While her son, Max, believes Jiffy has been kidnapped, Bella is convinced he’s just wandered off as he typically does… until a body shows up in the lake.

Now everyone is pulling out all the stops to find the missing child, identify the victim, and collar the killer. And fast, because he’s coming for Bella next in Dead of Winter.
