Hannah finds herself in a scary situation. While on her
rumspringa, the time when young Amish people experience the
world, she picked up an admirer, Trent, and now she has
returned to her faith, he's started to stalk her. HER
SECRET changes Hannah Hilty from a busy young woman with a
catering job to a nervous, withdrawn recluse. Her parents
decide to move the family to a quiet, reserved Plain
community in Kentucky for safety. Hannah has to hope the
move will break her free.
Isaac Troyer sees the family move in next door but wonders
why the girl is not so outgoing as her brothers. When he
encounters Hannah, it doesn't go well. Unfortunately she
doesn't trust any man now. And the sneaky messages start
again - could Trent have found her?
This new series is called The Amish of Hart County and
with the move, we are introduced to Hannah's new
surroundings. Caught up in her own worries, the girl hasn't
noticed how the change has affected others in the family,
until her younger brother and sister start complaining. The
younger generation aren't the only ones with problems. As
with any family we can see that stress starts pushing them
apart. Despite this we see that the people in the
neighbourhood pull together and help others.
I did think it was a pity that Hannah was frightened of
men, because bullies are of course cowards and maybe all it
would take to get rid of a stalker would be for Hannah to
find a new confident boyfriend. Some stalkers won't be
deterred, though. And what is very encouraging is that the
law officers are determined not to let a creep terrorise
any woman. Each reader will bring their own feelings to
this quite emotional and suspenseful story.
I hadn't read anything by Shelley Shepard Gray previously
but I'll certainly look out for her works after reading HER
SECRET. This romantic suspense book promotes Christian
values gently, but also demonstrates that we have to help
ourselves, and stand up for ourselves and those who need
help. With several other series under her belt, all Amish
romantic fiction, she is clearly an accomplished
storyteller. Four books are in the works about Hart County,
Kentucky, and the other series are in varied locations.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series—The Amish of Hart County—with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker. After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone—even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was. For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye. Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.
